CarGurus Analysis: 2025 Chevrolet Malibu
Summary
With 17 currently listed for sale near Nepean, ON and an average price of $21,488 CAD, 23.5% of 2025 Chevrolet Malibus for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
100.0% of 2025 Malibu models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2025 Chevrolet Malibu stands out as the final chapter for Chevrolet’s sedan line, and that alone gives it a distinctive place in the brand’s history. By the time the ninth-generation Malibu arrived as a 2016 model, it had become a much more sophisticated car than the one it replaced, with sleek styling, a longer wheelbase, and a larger, more open-feeling back seat. It was also offered with a wide range of powertrains and technology, including a hybrid, which helped make it feel more modern than earlier Malibus.
For 2025, the Malibu’s appeal is rooted in value and everyday usability. The model line is described as having the best reliability record of all front-wheel drive Malibus, and late examples are noted as being cheap for what they are. The cabin is roomy, the infotainment is easy to use, and the car offers a decent array of safety and driver-assistance features, with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and forward collision warnings becoming standard in 2022. Chevrolet also added wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity in 2021, which keeps the car’s tech feel current enough for many buyers.
There are still trade-offs. Reviewers found the standard 1.5-litre turbocharged engine’s acceleration lacklustre, and the Malibu is not as refined as some rivals. Its safety scores are middling, and earlier versions of the car had weak transmissions before the CVT arrived. Even so, the 2025 Malibu remains appealing as a practical, spacious, and relatively affordable midsize sedan with a long-running name and a strong final-generation reputation.

Is the 2025 Chevrolet Malibu a good car?
The 2025 Chevrolet Malibu is a good fit if you want a roomy, value-focused sedan with useful technology and a comfortable cabin. Chevrolet’s long-running sedan is in its final chapter here, which gives it a bit of extra distinction, and this generation is described as more sophisticated, more comfortable, and more reliable than earlier Malibus. It also offers a larger, more open-feeling back seat, plus a broad spread of trims and powertrains so you can choose the version that best suits your needs.
Key things to evaluate: the standard 1.5-litre turbocharged engine is described as lacklustre in acceleration, and the Malibu is not as refined as rivals such as the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. Even so, it remains appealing as an easy-to-live-with family car with strong value and practical tech.
Market signal: 22.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Is the 2025 Chevrolet Malibu reliable?
The 2025 Chevrolet Malibu is described as more reliable than the Malibus that came before it, and this generation is presented as the most refined front-drive Malibu family. That makes it a stronger used-car bet than earlier versions, especially if you want a straightforward sedan with a reputation for improved quality and everyday usability.
Long-term ownership risk: for used buyers, the main risk is less about outright reliability and more about choosing the right trim and condition, since the car’s equipment and refinement vary by version.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Chevrolet Malibu?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market for the 2025 Chevrolet Malibu, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings rather than rush.
- Deal availability: 22.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 124 listings available.
Should I buy a 2025 Chevrolet Malibu or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2025 if:
- 22.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
The bottom line: If you want the Malibu at its most distinctive, the 2025 Chevrolet Malibu is the one to target. It gives you the final-year appeal, the same roomy and value-oriented formula, and a broad enough spread of trims to find a version that fits your budget. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth considering, but the 2025 remains the best choice if you want the last and most complete version of this sedan.
