Is the 2025 BMW i4 a good car?

Yes — 5/5 from owners and 7.83/10 from experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

The i4’s standout strengths are its enjoyable driving character, impressive technology, and useful hatchback practicality. Trade-offs include its potentially polarizing design and cramped back seat.

23.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2025 BMW i4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert evaluation describes the i4 as a top-notch EV with impressive reliability, and it also highlights the car’s strong overall engineering and polished execution. The performance notes point to a well-sorted powertrain, with the single-motor setup delivering strong range and everyday usability.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to the convenience of BMW’s EV packaging and ownership experience, including Plug & Charge support for easier public charging.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the battery, charging system, and software features are all working as intended, since those are central to the i4’s value proposition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW i4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The i4’s design and cabin updates are subtle, so you should focus on the equipment differences between versions rather than expecting a dramatic visual change. The base model is positioned as the most affordable entry point, while higher trims add more performance and equipment.
• Powertrain: The single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup delivers the longest range and traditional BMW rear-drive feel, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions add traction and stronger acceleration. The eDrive40 is rated at 335 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: Every i4 includes forward collision warning and automatic high beams. Depending on the model, automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert may be standard or bundled in a package. The Advanced Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centring assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, emergency stop assist, and Traffic Jam Assistant.
• Infotainment: The i4 uses a 14.9-inch touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and iDrive 8.5 with Quick Select. It also adds Augmented View and improved route planning tied to charging stations.
• Range & charging: With the larger wheels, the eDrive40 is rated at 475 km of range from an 81 kWh battery pack, and BMW says DC fast charging can take the battery from 35% to 80% in 30 minutes in the conditions described.
• Battery health: As with any used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm how the car has typically been charged, and review the remaining battery warranty coverage. A car that has spent most of its life on home charging is often easier to evaluate than one that has relied heavily on frequent DC fast charging.

Which 2025 BMW i4 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW i4 is offered in 4 trim levels: eDrive35, eDrive40, xDrive40, M50.

Here's the short version:

• eDrive35: This is the value-focused entry point if you want the i4’s hatchback practicality and BMW badge at the lowest starting price. It is also the version positioned to qualify for provincial and territorial EV rebate programs where they still exist.
• eDrive40: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it combines the longest range among the i4 lineup with rear-wheel-drive dynamics and strong everyday performance.
• xDrive40: Choose this if you want the added traction and quicker all-weather confidence of dual-motor all-wheel drive.
• M50: Pick this if you want the performance-tuned dual-motor AWD version and are willing to pay for the most powerful, most aggressive i4 experience.

The Advanced Driver Assistance package adds the most complete safety and convenience suite, including adaptive cruise control and Driving Assistant Professional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW i4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 23.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 101 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $67,325 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW i4's resale value?

The current average of $72,724 CAD sits slightly above last year's $72,551 CAD.

That small increase suggests the i4 has held its value fairly well in the near term. For a future seller, that kind of stability can be helpful because it points to a market that is not swinging sharply in either direction. If demand stays steady, you may have a better chance of recovering a solid share of your purchase price when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 BMW i4 safe?

The BMW i4 earns incomplete crash-test coverage from NHTSA and IIHS at the time of writing.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips every i4 with forward collision warning and automatic high beams as standard. Depending on the model, automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert are either standard or available in a package. The Advanced Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centring assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, emergency stop assist, and Traffic Jam Assistant for limited-access highways at speeds under 60 km/h.

There are some caveats to keep in mind: the lane-keeping system can misread pavement scars, and the automatic braking technology can mistake parked cars for obstacles in some situations. That means you should test the driver-assistance features carefully on your own routes before you buy.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW i4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 23.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 model year brings subtle design updates, a new infotainment system, and Plug & Charge convenience.

The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date i4 experience, the 2025 model is the one to target because it adds meaningful tech and convenience improvements without changing the car’s core appeal. If you are more price-sensitive, keep an eye on lower-priced listings and focus on the trim that gives you the range, traction, and equipment you actually need.
