Is the 2025 BMW i4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert evaluation points to top-notch reliability, and the car’s overall execution suggests a well-sorted EV package. Its performance is described as strong and composed, with the single-motor setup delivering the longest range and traditional rear-wheel-drive dynamics.

BMW also adds Plug & Charge convenience, which makes public charging simpler and more seamless. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the battery and charging system have been treated consistently and that the car’s advanced electronics are functioning as intended.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW i4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The i4 comes in four model series, and the base eDrive35 is the one positioned to qualify for provincial and territorial EV rebate programs where they still exist. The higher-series models add more power and, in the case of the dual-motor versions, AWD traction.
• Powertrain: The single-motor eDrive40 uses rear-wheel drive and is tuned for the longest range, while the dual-motor xDrive40 and M50 add AWD and stronger acceleration. The eDrive40 is rated at 335 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, with an 81-kWh battery pack.
• Safety package: Every i4 gets forward collision warning and automatic high beams. Depending on the model, automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert may be standard or available in a package. The Advanced Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centring assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, emergency stop assist, and Traffic Jam Assistant.
• Infotainment: The BMW Curved Display combines a 12.3-inch driver display with a 14.9-inch touchscreen, and the 2025 model uses iDrive 8.5 with Quick Select. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the system adds over-the-air convenience through its updated software architecture.
• Range & charging: With the standard 18-inch wheels, the eDrive40 is rated at 512 km of range and 18.7 kWh/100 km. With the M Sport Package’s 19-inch wheels, those figures change to 475 km and 20.1 kWh/100 km. A DC fast-charge session took 30 minutes to reach an 80% charge in testing.
• Battery health: As with any used EV, you should check battery state-of-health, confirm how the car has been charged over time, and review whether it has spent most of its life on home charging or frequent DC fast charging. You should also verify how much of the battery warranty remains.

Which 2025 BMW i4 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW i4 is offered in 4 trim levels: eDrive35, eDrive40, xDrive40, M50.

Here's the short version:

• eDrive35: This is the value-oriented entry point, and it is the trim most clearly tied to rebate eligibility where those programmes still exist. It makes the most sense if you want the i4 experience at the lowest starting price.
• eDrive40: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it combines the longest range with rear-wheel-drive dynamics and strong everyday performance. If you want the sweet spot in the lineup, this is the one to focus on.
• xDrive40: Choose this if you want the added traction of AWD and the extra confidence that comes with the dual-motor setup.
• M50: Pick this if you want the performance-tuned dual-motor AWD version and are willing to pay for the most aggressive setup in the range.

BMW’s safety content notes that some driver-assistance features are standard on every i4, while others are bundled or vary by model, so it’s worth checking the exact equipment list on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 BMW i4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep distress pricing.

• Deal availability: 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 100 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $67,301 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 BMW i4's resale value?

The current average of $71,783 CAD sits slightly below last year's $72,461 CAD.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than volatile. For a future seller, that can be a positive sign because it points to predictable pricing rather than a sharp drop-off. If demand stays steady, well-kept examples should remain relatively easy to position against comparable listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 BMW i4 safe?

The BMW i4’s crash-test ratings from NHTSA and IIHS were incomplete at the time of writing.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips every i4 with forward collision warning and automatic high beams as standard. Depending on the model, automatic emergency braking, active blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert are either standard or available in a package. The Advanced Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control plus Driving Assistant Professional, which includes lane-centring assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and emergency stop assist. Traffic Jam Assistant is also included with that package for hands-free use on limited-access highways at speeds under 60 km/h.

There are a few caveats to keep in mind: the lane-keeping system can misread pavement scars, and the automatic braking technology may mistake parked cars for obstacles in some situations. That means you should pay close attention to how the driver aids behave during your test drive.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW i4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 model brings subtle design updates, a new infotainment system, and Plug & Charge convenience.

The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date i4 experience, the 2025 model is the one to target because it adds meaningful tech improvements without a major price swing. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2025’s updated infotainment and charging convenience give it a clear edge for shoppers who value newer features.
