Is the 2025 BMW X5 a good car?

The 2025 BMW X5 earns an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

It remains a core midsize luxury SUV with multiple powertrain options, strong handling, and a comfortable ride. Those strengths help explain its staying power in a crowded class, even though it is described as weak value compared with rivals and advanced safety features are not standard.

Cons: Weak value compared to rivals and advanced safety features are not standard.

With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 BMW X5 reliable?

The 2025 BMW X5 is presented as a well-rounded luxury SUV that meets expectations for interior space, driving dynamics, and technology. Its powertrain range and balanced road manners support that impression, and the model’s four-year/80,000-kilometre new-vehicle warranty is comparable to most rivals.

The performance notes point to smooth power delivery and a chassis that feels precise and reasonably agile for a large SUV. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that premium maintenance and repair costs can add up over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW X5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base models come standard with 20-inch wheels and run-flat all-season tyres, while 21-inch and 22-inch wheels with performance tyres are also available. The M Sport Package adds sportier front and rear bumpers and a leather steering wheel, and M Sport Pro adds an M Sport exhaust system, matte black grille surround, black chrome exhaust tips, illuminated grille, and Shadowline headlights.
• Powertrain: In Canada, the X5 starts with the xDrive40i, which uses a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six with standard all-wheel drive. The xDrive50e plug-in hybrid adds a larger electric motor and a 19.2-kWh battery pack, while the M60i uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8.
• Safety package: Standard driver aids include lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning, but not adaptive cruise control. The Advanced Driver Assistance Package adds Highway Assistant, a hands-free system that also handles steering at speeds up to 135 km/h.
• Infotainment: The curved dashboard display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. It runs BMW Operating System 8 and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: Six-cylinder X5 models are rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined, while the V8-engined M60i is rated at 12.3 L/100 km combined. The X5 xDrive50e plug-in hybrid offers up to 63 kilometres of electric range.

Which 2025 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW X5 is offered in 4 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i xDrive, X5 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value starting point if you want the core X5 experience with the turbocharged inline-six, standard AWD, and the model’s strong balance of comfort and handling.
• xDrive50e: This is the pick if you want plug-in hybrid efficiency and the added benefit of standard air suspension, plus the strongest blend of performance and electric driving range.
• M60i xDrive: Choose this if you want V8 power and quicker acceleration, but be ready for higher fuel consumption and a higher purchase price.
• X5 M Competition: This is the performance flagship for buyers who want maximum speed and the most extreme X5 character.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so check whether the package you want is included on the trim you’re considering.

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 133 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.18% compared with last year.

What is the 2025 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $85,022 CAD sits slightly below last year's $97,926 CAD.

That price movement suggests the X5 has become more accessible for used buyers than it was a year ago. For a future seller, the key will be how well the vehicle is equipped and maintained, since stronger trims and desirable packages should be easier to position in the market.

Is the 2025 BMW X5 safe?

Should I buy a 2025 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.18% compared with last year.
• It keeps the updated cabin, strong handling, and top-tier safety recognition.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $72,001 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $85,022 CAD average.
• It delivers engaging plug-in hybrid driving with about 63 kilometres of electric-only range.

Consider the 2026 if:

• At $110,709 CAD, the 2026 costs more than the current year's $85,022 CAD average.
• It adds more drivetrain variety and broader luxury-SUV appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of updated equipment, safety, and market pricing, the 2025 is the sensible default. If your priority is lower purchase cost, the 2024 is the better value play.
