Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Volkswagen positions this model as its best-selling vehicle, and for 2024 it gets a value boost through upgrades. It also brings a premium look that helps support its appeal, while standard advanced safety features add to its everyday usefulness. For you, that means the Tiguan makes the most sense if you want a compact SUV with a more polished presentation than many rivals.

The trade-offs are real: the driving experience is not especially impressive, the throttle can be irritating, and the seats are uncomfortable. Even so, good handling helps it feel manageable, and the market still shows 28.4% of listings as good or great deals.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Volkswagen describes the Tiguan as a carryover model for 2024, and the expert review notes that its premium looks and value focus are part of its appeal. The standard turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is standard in Canada. Volkswagen also backs it with a four-year/80,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, plus roadside assistance and connected services.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that its efficiency and driving refinement may not feel as strong as its styling and equipment suggest.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Trendline comes with heated front seats and cloth seating surfaces, while higher trims add features such as a power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, real leather, front-seat ventilation, a heated steering wheel, and heated outboard rear seats. If you want the most upscale cabin, the upper trims are the ones to target.
• Powertrain: Every 2024 Tiguan uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard 4Motion all-wheel drive. The review notes inconsistent power delivery and a touchy gas pedal.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, emergency calling, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Travel Assist, which adds adaptive cruise control, lane assist, Emergency Assist, and semi-autonomous highway driving, comes on the Comfortline trim.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch centre touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit system. Higher trims add wireless charging, and only the R-Line trims get the fully configurable 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro screen.
• Fuel efficiency: NRCan rates the Tiguan at 10.6 L/100 km city, 8.0 L/100 km highway, and 9.4 L/100 km combined in non R-Line configurations, and 10.9 L/100 km city, 8.1 L/100 km highway, and 9.7 L/100 km combined for the R-Line trims.

Which 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline R-Line, Highline R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• Trendline: This is the value starting point if you want the Tiguan’s premium look, standard heated front seats, cloth upholstery, and core safety equipment without stretching the budget.
• Comfortline: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds an eight-way power driver’s seat, leatherette upholstery, a power tailgate, and Travel Assist.
• Comfortline R-Line: Choose this if you want the R-Line appearance and a panoramic sunroof, while still staying below the top trim.
• Highline R-Line: This is the most luxurious choice, with real leather, front-seat ventilation, a heated steering wheel, driver’s seat memory, heated outboard rear seats, and the upgraded Digital Cockpit Pro display.

Should I buy a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Volkswagen’s 2024 upgrades improve value while keeping the premium look and standard safety focus.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $27,197 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $29,505 CAD average.
• It offers a more spacious, third-row-capable cabin.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $39,263 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $29,505 CAD average.
• It brings a redesigned cabin with a simpler interface and a quieter, more comfortable feel.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, standard safety equipment, and premium styling, the 2024 is the sensible pick. If price matters most, the 2023 is the cheaper route; if you want the newest cabin and can spend more, the 2025 is the upgrade path.
