Is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar a good car?

The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar earns a 6.33/10 expert rating, and it is aimed at you if you value style, comfort, and a more exclusive feel than the usual midsize luxury SUV choices. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It brings a distinctive design, a comfortable character, and a powerful engine to the table, while the updates for this model year improve the standard infotainment system and add design and comfort enhancements. The trade-offs are clear: the technology can still be frustrating, there are minor quality oversights, and the steering assist is unimpressive.

If you want a luxury SUV that feels more design-led than mainstream, the Velar fits that brief well. There are 32.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar reliable?

The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is presented as a premium SUV with a comfortable character and a strong powertrain, but its day-to-day dependability depends heavily on how well you get along with its technology. The expert evaluation notes that the infotainment system can be frustrating, and the steering assist is not a strength.

On the positive side, the powertrain is described as smooth and strong, and the vehicle’s driving assistance systems generally work well. The expert also notes that the adaptive cruise control performs smoothly, while the more advanced lane-centring system is the weak link.

For used ownership, the main long-term risk is that you may be living with a luxury SUV whose hardware feels appealing but whose software and driver-assist behaviour can wear on you over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Dynamic SE in Canada is the starting point, but it misses some of the richer equipment and stronger engine choices that make the Velar feel more special. You should pay close attention to whether the vehicle has the upgrades that improve the cabin and overall experience.
• Powertrain: You can find a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder P250, a P340 gas/mild-hybrid setup, or a more powerful 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder mild-hybrid engine. The six-cylinder is the stronger choice if you want the Velar to feel more appropriate for its class.
• Safety package: Every 2024 Velar comes with a comprehensive collection of advanced driving assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Steer Assist. The adaptive cruise control works well, but Steer Assist is the system you should test carefully because it can add unwanted steering inputs.
• Infotainment: The standard setup centres on an 11.4-inch touchscreen with over-the-air software update capability, Amazon Alexa compatibility, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto. You should make sure you are comfortable with the screen-based controls, since several functions moved off physical buttons.
• Fuel efficiency: The P400 is rated at 11.1 L/100 km in combined driving, the P340 at 10.7 L/100 km, and the P250 at 10.0 L/100 km. The expert evaluation recorded 12.1 L/100 km during testing.

Which 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar trim should I buy?

The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is offered in 3 trim levels: Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, and Autobiography.

Here's the short version:

• Dynamic SE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Velar’s style and comfort without stretching too far. It is the trim to focus on if you are shopping carefully and want the most accessible way into the model.
• Dynamic HSE: This is the trim to target if you want the stronger 3.0-litre engine mentioned in the expert evaluation. It is the better fit if you care more about performance and refinement than simply getting the lowest price.
• Autobiography: This is the most upscale choice, so it suits you if you want the Velar at its most luxurious and are willing to pay for it.

Every 2024 Velar comes with advanced driving assistance systems, but you should still test the steering assist carefully because it is the weakest part of the package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some patience and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 56 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.92% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $52,897 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar's resale value?

The current average of $53,129 CAD sits slightly below last year's $70,764 CAD.

That drop suggests the Velar has become more approachable for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer resale environment than someone who bought earlier. If you own one, the current pricing trend points to more depreciation pressure than appreciation. For you as a shopper, that can be an advantage now, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for several years.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar safe?

The 2024 Velar earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2024 Velar comes with a comprehensive collection of advanced driving assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Steer Assist, which pairs adaptive cruise with lane-centring assistance to create a Level 2, hands-on semi-autonomous system. The adaptive cruise control works well, but Steer Assist is the weak point because it can add unwanted steering inputs and struggle to track accurately through bends.

The system also includes a speed-limited function that can help prevent speeding, and the vehicle’s status indicators make it easier for you to tell when the assistance features are active. If safety tech matters to you, the Velar’s package is broad, but you should test the lane-centring behaviour carefully before buying.

Should I buy a 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.92% compared with last year.
• The year’s updates to design, comfort, and infotainment matter to you.

The bottom line: If you want the most appealing version of the Velar’s style-first formula, the 2024 model is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, you may want to keep shopping carefully and focus on the best-priced listings rather than rushing into the first one you see.
