Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 earns a 4.64/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the powerful engine choices, comfortable and spacious interior, and well-equipped features. The design and luxury touches also come through as recurring positives, especially if you want a truck that feels more upscale than basic.

The trade-offs are that some owners mention infotainment reliability concerns and the need for a data plan, while the expert review also points to poor value for money and the fact that not all advanced safety features are standard.

If you want a full-size pickup that can work as a basic truck, an off-roader, or a long-distance cruiser, this one fits that brief well. The market also shows 35.5% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with strong praise for its powerful engine, comfortable cabin, and well-equipped nature. The same feedback also suggests some buyers have had trouble-free ownership experiences, especially when they value the Sierra’s upscale feel and broad capability.

The expert drive notes that the diesel powertrain is smooth, linear, and well suited to towing, while the 10-speed automatic shifts smoothly and quickly in most situations. That kind of refinement is a good sign for long-term usability.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that infotainment and emissions-related concerns could affect satisfaction if the truck was not maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Pro is aimed at commercial fleets and is the most basic-looking version, while Denali and Denali Ultimate bring the luxury focus and AT4/AT4X lean into off-road capability. Base trims are much more stripped down, so check whether you need the larger screens, premium materials, and convenience features found higher up.
• Powertrain: You can choose from the TurboMax 2.7-litre turbo four-cylinder, 5.3-litre V8, 6.2-litre V8, or Duramax 3.0-litre turbodiesel inline-six. The diesel stands out for smooth delivery and strong torque, while the V8s trade efficiency for more traditional truck power.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and the Safety Alert driver’s seat are optional, so verify what is fitted on the truck you are considering.
• Infotainment: Pro models use a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SLE and higher trims get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Google Built-In.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax diesel is rated at 9.2 L/100 km combined with RWD and 9.6 L/100 km combined with 4WD. The TurboMax can achieve 12 L/100 km combined in some configurations, while the V8s land in the 14 to 16 L/100 km range.

Which 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and do not need the larger screens or premium features found higher up.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, the 13.4-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, and Google Built-In.
• Elevation: Choose this if you want a more polished look than the Pro without jumping all the way to the luxury-oriented trims.
• SLT: This is the step-up choice if you want a more upscale feel and broader equipment without going fully premium.
• AT4: This is the off-road-focused pick, with a 5-centimetre lift kit, Rancho monotube shocks, a locking rear differential, and skid plates.
• AT4X: Pick this if you want the most serious off-road hardware in the lineup, including a front locker and Multimatic DSSV dampers.
• Denali: This is the luxury trim for buyers who want the signature chrome look and a more premium cabin experience.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the top luxury choice, especially if you want the most comfort and convenience features available, including the kind of equipment that makes long trips easier.

Safety equipment is not fully standard across the lineup, so check carefully for optional driver-assistance features on the trim you are considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,632 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.45% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $55,360 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $55,360 CAD sits slightly below last year's $67,061 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command top dollar immediately. If you buy now, you may benefit from the softer pricing, but resale upside could be more gradual if the market stays competitive.

The Sierra’s broad appeal helps support future demand, especially because it can serve as a work truck, luxury cruiser, or off-road pickup. Strong owner satisfaction also tends to help used demand hold up over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab received a Good score in the driver-side small overlap front crash test, a Marginal score in the passenger-side version, Good scores in the original moderate overlap front and side tests, and an Acceptable score in the updated side crash test. It also earns five-star ratings in side-crash protection and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in rollover and frontal crash testing.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and the Safety Alert driver’s seat are optional.

The main caveat is the uneven IIHS result, especially the passenger-side small overlap score and the updated side-crash result. That means you should pay close attention to which driver-assistance features are actually fitted on the used truck you are considering.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 keeps the Sierra’s broad trim range and strong diesel efficiency while leaning into luxury and technology.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $50,007 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $55,360 CAD average.
• It emphasises luxury-focused full-size-truck features and a richly equipped cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing trend, strong inventory, and the same broad mix of capability and upscale features, the 2024 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2023 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Sierra’s core luxury-truck appeal.
