Is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas earns a mixed-to-positive case if you want a three-row SUV with a spacious cabin, a straightforward layout, and polished road manners. Its user rating is 3/5, which suggests it may suit you best if interior room and family-friendly usability matter more than efficiency or low running costs.

The Atlas is built around a vast interior, practical storage, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a premium feel that helps it stand out for everyday family use. If you want space without giving up a refined driving experience, that combination is the main reason to consider it. There are 29.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas is described as having slightly below-average reliability compared with some rivals, and it can bring high out-of-warranty repair costs. It also benefits from the 2021 facelift, which added revised interior materials and more standard safety systems.

For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth weighing carefully if you plan to keep the vehicle beyond the warranty period.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 396 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.44% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,135 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $35,135 CAD sits slightly below last year's $43,080 CAD.

That drop suggests the Atlas has moved into a more buyer-friendly pricing zone, which can help you if you're shopping now. For a future seller, it also means you may face more competition when you list, especially if the market stays soft. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and price it competitively, you should still be able to appeal to shoppers who want space and a well-equipped cabin.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.44% compared with last year.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,607 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $35,135 CAD average.
• It offers a spacious, practical cabin.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $40,755 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $35,135 CAD average.
• It adds more power and standard features.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around pick if you want the refreshed Atlas formula at a softer price than the 2024. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the smarter value play, especially if you mainly want the Atlas’s space and practicality.
