Is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas is a solid fit if you want a three-row SUV that puts space and practicality first, with a straightforward layout and a more polished driving feel than its size might suggest. Its roomy second and third rows, clean design, and family-focused cabin are the main reasons it stands out.

The user rating is 3/5, which points to a mixed but workable ownership experience. For you, that means the Atlas makes the most sense if cabin room, everyday usability, and a premium-leaning feel matter more than flash or sportiness. 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas is described as having below-average reliability compared with some rivals, and it also comes with high maintenance costs. The overview also points to earlier-model issues involving the transmission and electrical system.

For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth taking seriously, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for many years and want to minimise surprise repair costs.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Atlas?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can afford to be selective without waiting forever for the right listing.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 441 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.78% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $36,282 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $36,282 CAD sits slightly below last year's $44,129 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Atlas has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more competition if the market stays soft. If you buy at today’s average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle is equipped. For a future seller, the current trend is a reminder that strong pricing will likely depend on presenting a clean, well-maintained example.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.78% compared with last year.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,829 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $36,282 CAD average.
• It focuses on space and everyday usefulness.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $41,832 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $36,282 CAD average.
• It adds a major refresh with more standard features.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the best all-around pick if you want the Atlas’s roomy, family-friendly formula at a softer price than the 2024. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the value play; if you want the newer refresh and can stretch your budget, the 2024 is the upgrade path.
