Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.1/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal for family shoppers. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and comfort, and many value the hybrid setup for excellent gas mileage. The Sienna is also framed as a practical choice for busy households that want everyday usefulness, cargo space, and convenience.

The trade-offs are familiar: sluggish acceleration and an irritating transmission are the main drawbacks, and some owners mention engine noise during acceleration and mixed technology results. Even so, the Sienna’s strong efficiency and family-friendly packaging make it a compelling option if you want a minivan that prioritizes usefulness over excitement.

With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still enough market activity to find a worthwhile example.

Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna reliable?

Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, especially those who value the Sienna’s long-term usefulness and hybrid efficiency. The expert assessment also describes the technology as reliable, even if the interface itself feels dated.

Toyota’s hybrid setup and family-focused design should help support confidence over time, but used buyers should still pay attention to maintenance history and how the transmission and infotainment have aged in real-world use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LE is the entry point, while the XLE adds standard power-sliding doors and a power liftgate with kick sensors. The XSE brings a sportier look, and the Limited sits higher up the range. If you want the most family-friendly convenience features without moving too far upmarket, the XLE is the trim to focus on.
• Powertrain: Every 2023 Sienna uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid system with two front-mounted electric motors, plus a third rear-mounted electric motor on AWD trims. It makes 245 net system horsepower, and the expert assessment notes that acceleration is not especially strong.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is part of the standard safety setup, along with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. These features are standard, which is a major plus for base-trim shoppers.
• Infotainment: The Sienna uses a 9-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, an optional navigation system, and seven USB ports. The system is wired for CarPlay and Android Auto, and the interface can feel dated.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Sienna at 6.6 L/100 km city, 6.5 highway, and 6.6 combined for FWD models, or 6.8 city, 6.6 highway, and 6.7 combined for AWD models.

Which 2023 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Sienna is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and 25th Anniversary Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the most affordable way into the Sienna, and it already gives you the hybrid efficiency and standard safety equipment that define the model. It makes sense if you want the core Sienna experience without paying for extras.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it adds standard power-sliding doors and a power liftgate with kick sensors. If you want the most useful family upgrades without stretching too far, this is the one to target.
• XSE: Choose this if you want a sportier appearance and the available 20-inch wheels on the FWD version. It suits shoppers who want a more distinctive look.
• Limited: This is the upscale choice, with more premium equipment and the standard JBL audio system in Canada. It fits buyers who want a more polished family hauler.
• 25th Anniversary Special Edition: This trim sits just below the Limited in price and gives you a commemorative step up from the mainstream trims.

Toyota’s standard safety package is a major strength across the range, so even the lower trims are well covered.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 147 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.54% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,590 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Sienna's resale value?

The current average of $50,346 CAD sits slightly below last year's $55,657 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays loose. The current trend suggests the Sienna is not in a rising-price phase, so resale gains are less likely to come from market momentum alone.

Even so, the model’s strong efficiency and family appeal should help it remain attractive to used shoppers. Well-equipped examples with clean history and desirable trims should hold demand better than less appealing configurations.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna safe?

The 2023 Toyota Sienna was awarded Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS and earns five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That makes the base safety package especially strong for family use.

The main caveat is that Toyota’s competitors also score well in this area, so the Sienna’s advantage is more about being thoroughly equipped than uniquely class-leading.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines standard hybrid efficiency with strong family practicality and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $47,259 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $50,346 CAD average.
• It carries over the same successful hybrid formula from the redesign.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $54,657 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $50,346 CAD average.
• It adds a more modern, efficiency-focused family-hauler package with optional all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, efficiency, and family usefulness, the 2023 is the sensible pick. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 offers a lower entry point with a familiar formula.
