Generally — the 2023 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.11/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating, which points to a strong overall showing for family shoppers. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and comfort, and the hybrid setup is a major draw for families who want practicality without giving up efficiency. The Sienna’s usefulness also fits busy households well, especially if you value everyday convenience and cargo-friendly packaging.

The trade-offs are worth noting: expert testing calls out sluggish acceleration and an irritating transmission, while owners also mention limited power and some technology frustrations. The expert road test also describes the technology as reliable, which supports the idea that the Sienna is built to be counted on day to day.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright reliability and more about living with the Sienna’s compromises, especially its powertrain behaviour and second-row seat limitations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE is the base trim, while the XLE adds standard power-sliding doors and a standard power liftgate with kick sensors, which makes it especially appealing for families. The XSE brings a sportier look, and the Limited sits higher in the range with more upscale equipment. The 25th Anniversary Special Edition sits just below the Limited. If you want the larger seating capacity, you’ll need to focus on the LE or XLE.
• Powertrain: Every 2023 Sienna uses a hybrid setup with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and electric motors, including a rear motor on AWD models. It makes 245 net system horsepower, and the expert review notes that acceleration is not especially strong.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is part of the standard safety equipment, and the Sienna includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. These features are standard, which is a major plus for base-trim shoppers.
• Infotainment: The Sienna uses a 9-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but both require a wired connection. It also includes SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, an optional navigation system, and seven USB ports.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the AWD model at 6.8 L/100 km city, 6.6 highway, and 6.7 combined. The FWD model is rated at 6.6 L/100 km city, 6.5 highway, and 6.6 combined.

Which 2023 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Sienna is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and 25th Anniversary Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Sienna’s core strengths without pushing the price up. It’s the trim to focus on if you want the hybrid efficiency, standard safety tech, and family-friendly practicality at the lowest starting point.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds standard power-sliding doors and a standard power liftgate with kick sensors. If you want convenience features that matter every day, this is the trim that stands out.
• XSE: Choose this if you want a sportier appearance and a more distinctive look. The content also notes that the front-wheel-drive version gets 20-inch wheels, which helps it stand apart visually.
• Limited: This is the upscale choice, with more premium equipment and the standard 12-speaker JBL audio system in Canada. It suits you if you want the most polished version of the Sienna.
• 25th Anniversary Special Edition: This trim sits just below the Limited in price and gives you a commemorative step up from the mainstream trims. It’s worth considering if you want something a little more special without going all the way to the top.

The standard safety package is a strong selling point across the range, so even the lower trims give you a lot of protection for the money.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 130 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.89% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,579 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Sienna's resale value?

The current average of $50,975 CAD sits slightly below last year's $55,951 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations. If you own one now, the current trend shows that values have eased, so holding out for a strong resale premium may be harder than it was a year ago. Even so, the Sienna’s efficiency and family appeal should help it remain attractive to used shoppers.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.11/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna safe?

The 2023 Toyota Sienna earns a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is part of the standard safety equipment, and the Sienna includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That standard feature set is especially valuable in a family vehicle.

The main safety takeaway is straightforward: the Sienna is a strong choice if safety is a top priority, and there are no major caveats called out in the safety content.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.11/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines standard hybrid efficiency with strong safety and family-friendly practicality.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $47,153 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $50,975 CAD average.
• It carries over the same successful hybrid formula with little change.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $55,271 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $50,975 CAD average.
• It adds a more modern, efficiency-focused take with optional all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, efficiency, and safety, the 2023 is the sweet spot to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2022 is the value play; if you want the newer model-year experience and don’t mind paying more, the 2024 is the upgrade path.
