Is the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Camry Hybrid is presented as a cost-effective, comfort-oriented sedan that can carry four people, hold their luggage, and deliver good fuel economy. Its hybrid system is described as well isolated from the cabin, and the drivetrain is noted for avoiding much CVT moaning and groaning. Toyota also includes complimentary trial subscriptions for connected services such as Safety Connect, Remote Connect, and WiFi Connect.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the safety and driver-assistance systems can feel less refined than you might expect, so you should verify that they operate properly on a test drive.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE Nightshade Edition adds bronze wheels, a new Reservoir Blue paint colour, black-trimmed exterior details, and a more distinctive look, but the cabin still uses the same SE-spec interior and can feel cheap-looking. It is the most style-focused choice, while the base SE Hybrid Nightshade is the value-oriented pick if you want the appearance package without chasing higher-priced equipment.
• Powertrain: The hybrid uses a 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery pack, with power sent to the front wheels through a CVT-like hybrid system. Toyota also gives you Normal, Eco, EV, and Sport driving modes.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, and Intersection Support. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional.
• Infotainment: You can get a 7-inch or 9-inch touchscreen, both with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The larger screen adds connected navigation and a 9-speaker JBL premium sound system, and Toyota also offers connected services and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The Natural Resources Canada fuel economy rating is 4.9 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving for the base model and 5.1 L/100 km for other models. The test vehicle averaged 7.0 L/100 km.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with a shortlist and move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 54 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $31,512 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $31,981 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,805 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at today’s lower average. If demand stays steady, a well-kept Camry Hybrid should remain easier to move than a less established hybrid sedan. The current price range also gives you a clearer benchmark for setting a realistic asking price later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid safe?

The 2023 Camry Hybrid earns five-star ratings in every assessment conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), including for rollover resistance. It also earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), although that rating applies to 2022 models for calendar year 2022.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, and Intersection Support. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional.

One caveat is that the updated IIHS side-impact crash test returned a Poor rating, which could affect how you weigh the Camry Hybrid’s safety credentials.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The Nightshade Edition adds bronze wheels and Reservoir Blue paint for a more distinctive look.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,357 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $31,981 CAD average.
• It pairs everyday practicality with a hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the updated look and a market that has softened from last year. If your priority is simply paying less, the 2022 is the better value play, especially if you can find one in good condition.
