A new home-grown fuel-efficient option landed in the Canadian market for the 2025 model year. The Honda Civic Hybrid compact sedan is assembled at Honda of Canada Mfg. in Alliston, Ontario, alongside other Civic sedan models.
This front-wheel drive (FWD) compact car uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine coupled with hybrid drive to produce a combined system output of 200 hp and 232 pound-feet of torque, sent through an eCVT. These figures make it by far the most powerful hybrid car in its class.
According to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the Civic Hybrid’s fuel consumption measures at 4.7 L/100 km in the city, 5.1 on the highway, and 4.9 combined. The Honda Sensing suite of safety features and driver assistance technologies is standard on the 2026 Civic, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane keep assist, plus blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are included as well.

Honda Accord Hybrid

Whether to call the Kia Niro a car or an SUV is a matter of debate. Kia would prefer for you to think of this as a subcompact crossover SUV, but its 16 centimetres of ground clearance suggest it’s more of a hatchback. It’s a vehicle that’s likely to satisfy either type of buyer, so we’ve chosen to feature it here.

The Lexus ES, the midsize luxury sedan from Toyota’s premium brand, entered a new generation for the 2026 model year. While Lexus has focused mainly on EV versions at launch, a conventional hybrid remains available in the form of the 2026 Lexus ES 350h.
The new Lexus ES Hybrid combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with the brand’s sixth-generation hybrid drive system. Toyota Camry Hybrid

The Camry’s drivetrain combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and Toyota’s hybrid drive system to create a combined output of 225 hp with FWD and 232 hp with available AWD, managed through an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Toyota Corolla Hybrid
The Toyota Corolla Hybrid is unique among the market’s compact sedans in that it’s the only one available with both hybrid and AWD. This gives the Corolla a serious advantage over its long-time rivals such as the Honda Civic, Volkswagen Jetta, and Mazda 3.
AWD was introduced for the 2023 model year and remains standard on most trims in Canada. The 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine and electric motor combo generate a combined 121 horsepower. Without AWD, the LE consumes 4.4 L/100 km in the city, 5.1 on the highway, and 4.7 combined.
