What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Nissan Frontier?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes S, SV Convenience, SV, Pro-4X, Midnight Edition, and SV Premium. The base S misses some comfort features that are available on higher trims, while the Pro-4X adds unique styling touches and more off-road-oriented equipment.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.8-litre V6 with 310 hp and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The truck uses standard 4WD in Canada, and the expert review notes that the transmission can downshift more than you may expect on the highway.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, trailer sway control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a driver-attention monitor, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and rear-door alert. Traffic-sign recognition is standard on Pro-4X.
• Infotainment: Most trims use an 8-inch touchscreen, while Pro-4X gets a 9-inch system. Wireless Apple CarPlay is standard on Pro-4X, while S and SV trims still require a wired connection for smartphone integration.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates most versions at 12.8 L/100 km in city driving, 10.2 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.6 L/100 km combined. The Pro-4X is rated at 13.3 L/100 km city, 10.5 L/100 km highway, and 12.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?

The 2023 Nissan Frontier is offered in 6 trim levels: S, SV Convenience, SV, Pro-4X, Midnight Edition, and SV Premium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Frontier’s core capability at the lowest starting point, but you’ll give up some of the nicer comfort and convenience features found higher up the range.
• SV Convenience: This is the best-value trim if you want a more rounded daily driver, since it adds useful equipment without pushing you all the way to the more expensive upper trims.
• SV: Choose this if you want a balanced middle ground and prefer to build up from the standard truck without paying for the more specialised appearance or off-road upgrades.
• Midnight Edition: This is the style pick, with blacked-out exterior and interior details that give the truck a more distinctive look.
• SV Premium: This is the comfort-and-audio upgrade trim, and it makes sense if you want a more upscale cabin experience and the available premium sound system.
• Pro-4X: This is the one to buy if you want the most off-road-focused Frontier, with unique wheels, Lava Red interior accents, a larger infotainment screen, and added tech such as wireless Apple CarPlay and the available around-view monitor.

Traffic-sign recognition is standard on Pro-4X.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Nissan Frontier?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 139 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.99% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,769 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Nissan Frontier's resale value?

The current average of $41,835 CAD sits slightly below last year's $43,126 CAD.

That softer pricing trend can work in your favour if you buy now and hold the truck for a few years, because you may be starting from a more favourable entry point. For a future seller, the current market suggests there is still healthy demand, but not enough scarcity to push prices sharply higher. The Frontier’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and practical feature set should help support resale value, especially if you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance records complete.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Nissan Frontier safe?

The 2023 Nissan Frontier earns a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star side-crash results, four-star frontal-crash results, and three-star rollover results.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, trailer sway control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a driver-attention monitor, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and rear-door alert. Traffic-sign recognition is standard on Pro-4X. The main caveat is that the overall NHTSA score is held back by the frontal and rollover results.

Should I buy a 2023 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds only minor tweaks, mostly more standard features, while keeping the Frontier’s straightforward character.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $38,610 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $41,835 CAD average.
• It brings a redesigned look and a more dramatic change from the previous generation.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced used buy, the 2023 is the safer pick because it combines strong owner satisfaction, a softer price trend, and useful feature updates. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2022 is the value play and still gives you the Frontier’s redesigned package.

2023 Toyota Tacoma:

• Pros: Stylish design, Great off-road capability, Excellent reputation for reliability.
