Is the 2023 Kia Sportage a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Kia Sportage earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its great value, impressive features, and spacious interior, while also liking the modern styling. The main trade-off is fairly pedestrian performance, and the overview frames it as a compact SUV that stands out for stylish design, spaciousness, and impressive technology. That makes it a strong fit if you want a compact SUV with personality rather than a plain, conventional choice. With 34.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market availability for value-focused shoppers.

Is the 2023 Kia Sportage reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and value-rich, with many buyers saying they would count on its features and everyday usefulness. The expert review also describes it as a feature-rich SUV with a strong ownership proposition, and Kia backs it with a 5-year, 100,000-kilometre comprehensive warranty in Canada. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the modest powertrain and feature complexity suit your expectations over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Sportage?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX starts with cloth seats and a simpler cabin, while higher trims add more upscale touches such as synthetic leather, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a larger display setup. The X-Line Limited stands out for its most premium equipment, but the base LX is the most stripped-back version.
• Powertrain: The gas model uses a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is described as adequate rather than quick, so you should judge whether the performance suits your driving style.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, lane-departure warning, and a backup camera. X-Line adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit warning, while X-Line Limited adds blind-view monitor, highway driving assist, front and rear parking sensors, projection LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: EX-and-up models get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while the LX uses an 8-inch screen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add more display presence, but the top interface still uses wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: The gas Sportage is rated at 9.3 L/100 km city, 7.4 L/100 km highway, and 8.4 L/100 km combined with FWD, or 10.4 L/100 km city, 8.5 L/100 km highway, and 9.5 L/100 km combined with AWD.

Which 2023 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2023 Kia Sportage is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, X-Line, EX, EX Premium, and X-Line Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Sportage experience with the simplest cabin and the most basic equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is the least compelling choice if you care about the Sportage’s standout tech and upscale feel.
• X-Line: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the equipment and presence that make the Sportage feel more competitive, while staying relatively affordable. It also brings the extra safety features that meaningfully improve day-to-day confidence.
• EX: This trim is the sweet spot if you want the larger infotainment setup and more comfort-oriented equipment without jumping all the way to the top. It is a strong choice if you want the Sportage’s tech-forward personality to come through more clearly.
• EX Premium: Choose this if you want a more upscale version of the EX with more of the premium feel that the Sportage is trying to deliver. It suits shoppers who want a richer feature set without going to the most expensive trim.
• X-Line Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, and it is the one to buy if you want the Sportage’s best safety and convenience tech. It is the right pick if you want the most complete package and are willing to pay for it.

The X-Line Limited is the only trim with the blind-view monitor and highway driving assist, so if those features matter to you, that trim is the one to target.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Kia Sportage?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 633 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.15% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,041 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $27,041 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,095 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Sportage is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago, which can help you if you are shopping used now. For a future seller, it means you may not see the same pricing strength that earlier owners enjoyed, especially if market supply stays healthy. Even so, the Sportage’s strong feature content and broad appeal should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Kia Sportage safe?

The 2023 Kia Sportage offers an admirable amount of collision-avoidance tech and advanced driver assistance systems as standard equipment.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, lane-departure warning, and a backup camera. X-Line adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit warning, while X-Line Limited adds blind-view monitor, highway driving assist, front and rear parking sensors, projection LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and a surround-view camera. The main caveat is that the most desirable Kia safety features are reserved for the most expensive trim.

Should I buy a 2023 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is a redesigned model year that brings a more distinctive look, stronger technology, and a roomier-feeling cabin.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,391 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $27,041 CAD average.
• It offers a familiar design with available turbocharged performance and up-to-date technology.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the newer design, stronger tech, and broader appeal. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play, especially if you are comfortable giving up the newer styling and some of the 2023’s polish.
