Is the 2023 Kia Carnival a good car?

Yes — you get a 5/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

The 2023 Kia Carnival stands out by making the minivan formula look and feel more stylish, while still delivering the sliding-door practicality that matters for family use. It also brings impressive technology and strong everyday value, which helps it feel more upscale than a typical people mover.

The trade-offs are clear: all-wheel drive is not available, there is no hybrid option, and highway noise is a drawback.

With 28.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Kia Carnival reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Carnival’s overall package points to solid day-to-day dependability, with a powertrain that is described as smooth and well-matched to family hauling. The transmission operates flawlessly, and the V6 supplies plenty of power even with all three rows filled.

Its cost-effectiveness case is also helped by the fact that minivans are generally efficient for the space they provide, and the Carnival’s value proposition is a major part of its appeal. If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is that you’ll still be living without AWD or a hybrid option.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Carnival?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the entry point, while the EX+ and SX add the dual instrumentation and infotainment screens that help the cabin feel more sophisticated. The SX also brings dual power sunroofs and a more upscale interior presentation.
• Powertrain: You get a front-wheel-drive 3.5-litre V6 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is rated at 10.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the V6 delivers strong power for full-family use.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, Safe Exit Assist, and Junction Turning Detection are part of the safety story, with blind-spot monitoring arriving at the EX trim and the surround-view camera plus Blind-Spot View Monitor on EX+ and SX.
• Infotainment: The 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Kia Connect connected services. The dual 12.3-inch screens are especially appealing on EX+ and SX trims.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 10.6 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 11.1 litres per 100 kilometres on the evaluation loop.

Which 2023 Kia Carnival trim should I buy?

The 2023 Kia Carnival is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, LX+, EX, EX+, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the starting point if you want the Carnival’s style and practicality at the lowest entry price, but you give up some of the more polished cabin and tech upgrades found higher up the range.
• LX+: This trim adds a bit more equipment while staying close to the value-focused end of the lineup, making it a sensible step up if you want a little more comfort without going all the way to the upper trims.
• EX: This is the trim where the safety story improves meaningfully, because blind-spot monitoring arrives here along with adaptive cruise control and Safe Exit Assist.
• EX+: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the dual 12.3-inch screens, plus the surround-view camera and Blind-Spot View Monitor.
• SX: This is the most upscale choice, with dual power sunroofs, the most premium cabin presentation, and the strongest sense of luxury in the lineup.

Starting with Carnival EX trim, a Junction Turning Detection system can bring the minivan to a stop in order to prevent an unsafe turn.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Kia Carnival?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 202 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.79% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,288 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Kia Carnival's resale value?

The current average of $33,288 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,064 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about where the market has settled. If prices remain near the current average, resale values should be steadier than they were a year ago, but not especially strong relative to the prior peak.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Kia Carnival safe?

The 2023 Carnival earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Kia equips the Carnival with forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, Safe Exit Assist, and Junction Turning Detection. Blind-spot monitoring is standard starting at the EX trim, while EX+ and SX add a surround-view camera and a camera-based Blind-Spot View Monitor.

One important caveat is that the standard headlights on all but the top trim get a Poor rating for their performance.

Should I buy a 2023 Kia Carnival or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for stylish design, impressive technology, and excellent value for money.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,290 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $33,288 CAD average.
• It introduced the Carnival name with crossover-inspired styling and VIP passenger seating.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $38,004 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $33,288 CAD average.
• It carries over unchanged and remains a practical, distinctive family vehicle.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, style, and equipment, the 2023 is the sweet spot. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the better budget path. If you want a newer model-year alternative and are comfortable paying more, the 2024 is the straightforward upgrade.
