Is the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, spaciousness, and comfortable features, and they also highlight its powerful engine performance and towing capability. In use, that makes it a strong fit if you want a family-friendly three-row SUV with a premium feel and plenty of practicality.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the irritating transmission, so you should be prepared for a powertrain that does not match the cabin’s upscale impression.

With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still enough market activity to help you shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with buyers repeatedly describing it as a solid choice for families and for shoppers who want something they can count on. That kind of long-term confidence matters if you plan to keep the vehicle for several years.

From the expert side, the Grand Cherokee L’s solid chassis and composed ride support the impression of a well-built SUV that should age well in everyday use. Jeep also notes that its high resale value makes it a solid investment in the years to come.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is the same one that shows up in the driving impressions: the base engine and transmission may be the parts most likely to leave you wanting more.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lower trims use an 8.4-inch touchscreen and a 10-inch digital instrument panel, while Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve get a 10.1-inch touchscreen and full-screen maps on the instrument panel. Higher trims also bring a more premium cabin, and the Summit Reserve adds the most upscale execution.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 makes 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, but it is the weakest part of the vehicle. A 5.7-litre Hemi V8 is optional and is the better choice if you plan to tow.
• Safety package: Forward emergency braking, rear park assist and emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control are standard. Front cross-traffic braking, a backup camera washer, and 360-degree cameras are optional on Limited and Overland trims. Night vision is available only on Summit and Summit Reserve.
• Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all trim levels. Uconnect 5 is generally quick and easy to use, and the upper trims can be equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard 4x4 V6 is rated at 13.0 L/100 km in the city, 9.4 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.3 L/100 km combined. The optional V8 is rated at 16.7 L/100 km city, 10.9 L/100 km highway, and 14.1 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L trim should I buy?

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is offered in 6 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, Summit Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Grand Cherokee L experience with the 8.4-inch touchscreen, 10-inch digital instrument panel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the least expensive way into the model.
• Altitude: This trim keeps the same basic tech setup as the Laredo but adds a more distinctive appearance and is a sensible step up if you want a little more style without jumping too far in price.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 10.1-inch touchscreen and navigation, which makes the cabin feel more upscale and easier to live with.
• Overland: Choose this if you want a more premium-feeling Grand Cherokee L with the larger touchscreen and more available safety and convenience equipment, including optional 360-degree cameras and front cross-traffic braking.
• Summit: This is the first trim where night vision becomes available, and it is aimed at buyers who want a more luxurious and highly equipped SUV.
• Summit Reserve: This is the top-end choice if you want the most luxurious execution, and it is the trim that best matches the model’s premium ambitions.

The safety package is strongest on higher trims, but the core driver-assistance suite is standard across the lineup.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 301 listings available.

What is the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L's resale value?

The current average of $40,993 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,112 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about pricing if they want to move the vehicle quickly. The current trend points to softer demand than a year ago, which can pressure resale values in the near term.

Even so, the Grand Cherokee L still has a premium image, strong owner satisfaction, and broad family appeal. Those factors can help support demand when you eventually sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The 2023 Grand Cherokee L scored a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but only for models built after May 2023. It also earns five-star ratings in every National Highway Traffic Safety Administration test except rollover, in which it scored four-star.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward emergency braking, rear park assist and emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control are standard. Should I buy a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a stronger safety result for post-May 2023 builds and keeps the model’s premium three-row character.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $36,256 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $40,993 CAD average.
• It delivers a polished, luxury-leaning three-row SUV experience with Jeep character.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and updated safety performance, the 2023 is the better target. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2022 is still a compelling alternative, especially if you find one in good condition and equipped the way you want.
