CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 681 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,902 CAD, 32.3% of 2023 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Hyundai Elantra 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra stands out because it offers a wide range of personalities in one compact sedan. According to the test-drive summary, it can serve as basic transportation, a 4.7 L/100 km hybrid loaded with features, or one of the best sports sedans you can buy on a budget. That breadth is a major part of its appeal, especially for buyers who want a car that can be efficient, practical, and still entertaining to drive.
It is also described as roomy, safe, efficient, and technologically advanced, which gives it a strong all-round case in a market where new-car prices are high. The listed strengths reinforce that impression: multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and excellent value for money. On the downside, its design may be polarising, so the Elantra’s styling will not suit everyone.
Owner feedback broadly matches that picture, with praise for fuel economy, safety features, value, and the available tech. Some owners, however, have raised concerns about interior quality and noise, saying the materials feel cheap and that rattling noises can occur.

This car provides exceptional value and incredible features. I can’t think of anything it is missing. Great gas mileage. I would compare it to a Honda Accord with a lower price and better gas mileage.

Bought new 2023 Elantra SEL with Convenience Package. Serenity white w/ black interior – it was the only one with this trim / color combo w/in 200 miles. Great car… no complaints; mileage/handling/tech features etc superb keeping in mind bang for buck cost vs. features. Have owned several Elantra’s over many years.

2023 Hyundai Elantra Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2023 Hyundai Elantra prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2023 Hyundai Elantra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|

| Year-Round High | $24,091 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,090 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −13.34% |
Prices have softened 13.34% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 678 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.88/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its fuel economy, safety features, value for the price, and available tech. The overview also points to a roomy, practical sedan that can be efficient, useful, and still entertaining to drive.
The main trade-off is that the design may be polarising, and the expert notes also point to some interior materials that feel less premium than the rest of the package.
For you, that means the Elantra makes the most sense if you want broad capability in one compact sedan rather than a single-minded luxury or performance focus. With 32.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also decent market support for shoppers who want value.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights reliable-feeling ownership, strong value, and confidence in the car’s safety and efficiency. The expert drive notes also describe the Elantra as calm, cool, and collected in operation, with driving aids that feel smooth and subtle rather than abrupt.
Hyundai’s 5-year, 100,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper warranty and roadside assistance add another layer of reassurance for used buyers.
For a used purchase, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright dependability and more about whether the car’s interior quality and noise levels meet your expectations.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Elantra Essential is the value play, while the Preferred and Luxury trims add more upscale features and a more premium feel. The Luxury trim stands out for its richer cabin presentation, while the base trim is where you are most likely to miss some of the nicer equipment.
- Powertrain: You can shop this model as a standard 2.0-litre four-cylinder with a CVT/IVT, as a hybrid, or as a sportier turbo model. The standard setup is efficient and easy to live with, while the hybrid is the efficiency-focused choice and the N Line or N variants suit drivers who want more engagement.
- Safety package: Hyundai’s standard safety suite includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, a full complement of airbags, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, Highway Driving Assist, safe exit warning, cyclist detection, and intersection turning assist.
- Infotainment: The available 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and 10.25-inch touchscreen setup is a major draw. It includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, connected services, dynamic voice recognition, navigation, and a wireless charging pad, but CarPlay and Android Auto require a USB connection rather than wireless use.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 4.7 L/100 km in combined driving, while the standard test vehicle averaged 7.1 L/100 km during evaluation and was rated at 6.7 L/100 km officially.
Which 2023 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 6 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Hybrid, N Line Ultimate, and N.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the entry point and the best fit if you want the lowest-cost way into the Elantra lineup. It gives you the core Elantra experience, but you give up the richer cabin presentation and the bigger tech displays found higher up.
- Preferred: This is the trim to watch if you want a balanced mix of price and equipment. It can be paired with the larger display package, making it a strong value choice for shoppers who want more tech without jumping all the way to the top trims.
- Luxury: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it combines the upscale cabin feel, the 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and infotainment displays, and the strongest all-round feature set. If you want the Elantra to feel more premium without going sporty, this is the one to target.
- Hybrid: Choose this if fuel efficiency is your top priority. It adds the hybrid powertrain and keeps the Elantra’s feature-rich personality, making it the smart pick for high-mileage commuting.
- N Line Ultimate: This is the choice for drivers who want a more engaging character and the dual-clutch transmission instead of the standard CVT/IVT. It suits you if you care more about driving feel than maximum efficiency.
- N: Pick this if you want the most performance-focused version in the lineup. It is the enthusiast’s choice and the only one for buyers who want the manual-transmission experience.
Safety equipment is strongest on the higher trims, where features like blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist appear.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 678 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.34% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $20,877 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $20,877 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,090 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Elantra has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the car is especially well equipped or lightly used. The current market also shows a fairly wide spread between the low and high end of the year-round range, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter when you go to resell.
Because the model has strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal, demand should remain healthy for the right example. Well-kept cars with desirable features are likely to hold their appeal better than bare-bones versions.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2023 Elantra earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal crash protection and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA crash-test categories.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety package is extensive and includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, a full complement of airbags, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system.
Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, Highway Driving Assist, safe exit warning, cyclist detection, and intersection turning assist. In testing, the driving-assist systems were smooth and subtle, which is a real strength for everyday use.
The main caveat is that the NHTSA frontal crash result is lower than the rest of the car’s crash-test performance.
Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.34% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines broad trim choice, strong safety, and a feature-rich cabin with a value-first market position.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $19,060 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $20,877 CAD average.
- It is a bargain-focused compact sedan with strong safety, efficiency, and warranty coverage.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $22,998 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $20,877 CAD average.
- It adds a mild refresh with more style and standard equipment.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and market availability, the 2023 is the primary target. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want the newer look and added equipment, the 2024 is worth the extra spend.
