Is the 2023 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2023 BMW X5 suits you if you want a luxury SUV that keeps driving feel at the centre of the experience, while still offering a roomy cabin, strong visibility, and generous cargo space. Its standard xDrive all-wheel drive in Canada and choice of inline-six or V8 powertrains give it broad appeal, especially if you want something practical but still engaging to drive. With 39.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 BMW X5 is described as having reliability that is not a strong point overall, so you should approach used examples with care. For long-term ownership, that means a thorough inspection and service-history review matter more than usual, especially if you are considering a higher-cost version.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW X5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be patient and still find a solid example.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 212 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.76% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $54,999 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $54,999 CAD sits slightly below last year's $60,944 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the X5 easier to buy now but may also temper near-term resale upside. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your return will depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the X5 remains a desirable luxury SUV with strong everyday appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $72,083 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $54,999 CAD average.
• It adds about 63 kilometres of electric-only range in xDrive50e form.

The bottom line:
You should lean toward the 2023 if you want the better value and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition and history. If you want the newer model’s plug-in hybrid efficiency and are willing to pay more, the 2024 is the stronger secondary path.
