Is the 2023 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW X5 earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. The overview describes it as a luxury SUV that keeps driving feel at the centre of the experience, while still offering a roomy cabin, outstanding visibility, and generous cargo space. That makes it a strong fit if you want a midsize luxury SUV that balances comfort, practicality, and a more athletic road feel than many rivals. With 37.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview also notes that reliability is not a strong suit, so you should expect ownership to depend heavily on maintenance history and how the vehicle was used. Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW X5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you compare condition and equipment carefully.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 211 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $54,087 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $54,346 CAD sits slightly below last year's $62,085 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more selectively today, but it also means future resale values may face some pressure if the market stays loose. If you plan to sell later, a well-kept example with strong documentation should be easier to position than one with gaps in service history. The X5’s broad appeal and premium positioning still support demand, especially for buyers who want a luxury SUV with strong road manners.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $71,452 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $54,346 CAD average.
• It adds a plug-in hybrid option with about 63 kilometres of electric-only range.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the better value if you want the classic X5 formula at a lower entry price, especially if you can find a well-maintained example with the equipment you want. If you are willing to spend more for newer technology and plug-in hybrid capability, the 2024 is the stronger upgrade path.
