Yes — the 2023 BMW 3 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating.

It stands out as a refreshed version of BMW’s best-selling car, with sportier styling, interior design updates, and technology upgrades. It also keeps the driver-focused character that has long defined the model, while aiming to stay competitive in the sports sedan segment.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 BMW 3 Series is presented as a polished, driver-focused sedan with a quiet cabin and great ride quality, which supports the impression of a well-sorted daily driver. Its expert assessment also points to strong performance and a modern cabin experience, while the powertrain lineup is described as carried over, which usually helps with familiarity and predictability.

BMW’s infotainment and driver-assistance systems are also presented as mature and well integrated, and the available maintenance and ownership features add convenience for shoppers who want a premium experience.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that premium-car upkeep can be costly if the vehicle was not maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 330i is the entry point, but the M Sport package adds exterior upgrades and the M340i gets its own grille, tailpipes, and rear spoiler. The base setup is more restrained, so you should check whether the car has the appearance and equipment you want.
• Powertrain: The 330i uses a twin-turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder, the 330e adds electric assist, and the M340i steps up to a twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six. All use an eight-speed automatic, and xDrive is standard on all models except the PHEV.
• Safety package: The standard suite includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard, and the Active Protection System. The Advanced Driver Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, pedestrian and frontal collision warnings, Traffic Jam Assistant, and Driving Assistant Professional.
• Infotainment: You get BMW iDrive 8 with the BMW Curved Display, which combines a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air updates are standard, while wireless device charging is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The 330i xDrive is rated at 9.8 L/100 km in city driving, 7.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 8.6 L/100 km combined. The 330e is rated at 8.8 L/100 km on gas and 3.2 Le/100 km combined in electric mode, while the M340i is rated at 10.3 L/100 km city, 7.4 L/100 km highway, and 9.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series is offered in 3 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core 3 Series experience with the refreshed styling, iDrive 8, and the standard safety and tech features. It suits you if you want the most balanced mix of price, performance, and everyday usability.
• 330e: Choose this if you want plug-in hybrid efficiency and the ability to drive up to 35 kilometres on electric power. It is the right pick if your commute and charging access make the PHEV setup worthwhile.
• M340i: Pick this if you want the strongest performance in the standard lineup, with the twin-turbo inline-six and the most aggressive appearance details. It is the enthusiast choice, but it is not the value play.

The Advanced Driver Assistance Package adds the most comprehensive safety and driving-assistance features, so it is worth prioritising if you want the fullest safety setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 153 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.25% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $39,954 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $40,036 CAD sits slightly below last year's $49,583 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they bought before the decline. It also means you may face more competition from similarly priced listings if you decide to sell later.

Because the model still carries strong brand appeal and a premium reputation, well-kept examples should remain easier to market than less desirable luxury sedans.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series earns a five-star crash safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard with frontal collision warning and automatic city collision mitigation and braking, and the Active Protection System with automatic seat belt pretensioners, automatic window and moonroof closing, post-crash braking, and fatigue and focus alert.

The Advanced Driver Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, pedestrian and frontal collision warnings, Traffic Jam Assistant, and Driving Assistant Professional with adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assistant, and evasion aid.

IIHS has not yet rated the 2023 model, and the previous model year missed the top-tier distinction because of a Poor headlight result.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW’s mid-cycle refresh brings sleeker styling, an updated driver-oriented cockpit, and more technology.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $34,141 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $40,036 CAD average.
• It remains a benchmark-style luxury sports sedan with a restrained look and a familiar formula.

The bottom line: If you want the newer cabin, updated tech, and a softer market, the 2023 is the better all-round pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 remains a sensible alternative that keeps the core 3 Series character intact.
