Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2023 BMW 3 Series, and the expert score is 8.7/10.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

It stands out as a refreshed version of BMW’s best-selling car, with sportier styling, interior design updates, and technology upgrades. It also keeps the driver-focused character that has long defined the model, while aiming to stay competitive in the sports sedan segment.

The main trade-offs are that a manual transmission is not available and some interior materials feel cheap.

For shoppers who want a polished, engaging sedan with a more modern look and feel, it fits the brief well. The market also shows 33.6% of listings as good or great deals, which is a healthy sign for value-minded buyers.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 BMW 3 Series is presented as a refined, driver-focused sedan with a quiet cabin and great ride quality, which supports the impression of a well-sorted daily driver. Its powertrains are carried over, and the expert assessment highlights a polished, competitive package rather than a risky redesign.

The performance notes also point to a quiet companion in traffic and a car that feels composed in normal driving, which is reassuring for used buyers. If you want a premium sports sedan that should age into ownership with fewer surprises than a more experimental model, this one looks like a sensible bet.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 330i, M340i, and 330e each bring different equipment and character, with the 3 Series’ refreshed styling, standard 18-inch wheels, and curved-display cabin helping define the lineup. The base setup is still well equipped, but some advanced features are reserved for packages.
• Powertrain: The 330i uses a twin-turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder, the 330e adds electric assist, and the M340i steps up to a twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six. The 330i is quick enough for daily use, while the M340i is the performance choice.
• Safety package: Active Guard is standard and includes frontal collision warning plus automatic city collision mitigation and braking. The Advanced Driver Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, pedestrian and frontal collision warnings, Traffic Jam Assistant, and Driving Assistant Professional.
• Infotainment: You get BMW iDrive 8 with a 27.2-inch curved display, made up of a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. Wireless device charging is available, and over-the-air updates are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The 330i xDrive is rated at 9.8 L/100 km in city driving, 7.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 8.6 L/100 km combined. The 330e is rated at 8.8 L/100 km on gas and 3.2 Le/100 km combined in electric mode.

Which 2023 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series is offered in 3 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the best-value pick if you want the core 3 Series experience with strong performance, standard xDrive, and the refreshed cabin and tech upgrades. It delivers the balanced mix of style, ride quality, and everyday usability that defines the model.
• 330e: Choose this if you want plug-in hybrid efficiency and the ability to drive up to 35 kilometres on electric power. It suits buyers who can charge regularly and want a lower-emissions option.
• M340i: Pick this if you want the strongest performance in the lineup, with the twin-turbo inline-six and the most aggressive character. It is the right choice if you care most about speed and response.

For safety, the Advanced Driver Assistance Package bundles most of the key driver-assistance features, so it is worth prioritising if you want the most complete protection setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 140 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.84% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $39,856 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $39,856 CAD sits slightly below last year's $49,108 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key question is whether the model’s refreshed styling and strong tech package keep demand steady enough to offset the softer pricing trend.

Because the 3 Series remains a well-known luxury sports sedan with broad appeal, it should still attract shoppers looking for a premium daily driver. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series has been awarded a five-star crash safety rating, the highest grade offered by the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard, and the Active Protection System. The Advanced Driver Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, pedestrian and frontal collision warnings, Traffic Jam Assistant, and Driving Assistant Professional with adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assistant, and evasion aid.

The IIHS has not yet rated the 2023 model, and the plug-in hybrid version does not have a listed NHTSA rating.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW’s mid-cycle refresh brings sleeker styling, an updated driver-oriented cockpit, and loads of new technology.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $33,756 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $39,856 CAD average.
• It is a refined, benchmark-style luxury sports sedan with an evolutionary design and minor equipment changes.

The bottom line: If you want the newer cabin, updated tech, and stronger market availability, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter value play and still delivers the core 3 Series formula.
