Is the 2022 Porsche Macan a good car?

The 2022 Porsche Macan is a strong fit if you want a compact SUV that prioritises driving enjoyment and a premium feel over maximum practicality; it earns a 3.5/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating.

The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Its appeal comes through clearly in the styling and cabin, which are described as stylish, upscale, and distinctive, while the driving character is tuned to feel more like a sports car than a typical utility vehicle. That said, the trade-offs are real: the back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the infotainment system is unimpressive.

With 27.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you do have some room to shop selectively if you want the right combination of price and equipment.

Is the 2022 Porsche Macan reliable?

The 2022 Porsche Macan is presented as a polished, well-engineered SUV with the kind of precision and performance you expect from Porsche, and the expert evaluation says it behaves with focus, competence, and strong road manners.

The performance notes also suggest it is mechanically well sorted, with responsive power delivery, a dual-clutch transmission that shifts cleanly, and suspension tuning that supports both comfort and control. The expert commentary also notes that the available maintenance coverage includes the first scheduled maintenance visit on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about living with a premium performance SUV that can be costly to own if you want the best equipment and the sharpest driving experience.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Porsche Macan?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the base model, Macan T, Macan S, and Macan GTS. The base model is the least expensive way in, but the higher trims add more power and more standard equipment, with the GTS standing out as the most performance-focused choice.
• Powertrain: The base Macan and Macan T use a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 261 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The Macan S uses a twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 with 375 hp and 383 lb-ft, while the GTS uses the same 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 tuned to 434 hp and 406 lb-ft. All versions use a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Every model gets lane-departure warning and a reversing camera. Blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, and Park Assist are available, but not all are standard.
• Infotainment: Every model gets a 10.9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, navigation, connected services, and available WiFi hotspot access. Android Auto is not included.
• Fuel efficiency: The Macan S test vehicle returned 13.0 L/100 km, and the official Natural Resources Canada rating is 12.2 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Porsche Macan trim should I buy?

The 2022 Porsche Macan is offered in 4 trim levels: Macan base model, Macan T, Macan S, and Macan GTS.

Here's the short version:

• Macan base model: This is the entry point if you want the Porsche badge and the standard 10.9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and all-wheel drive without stretching to the pricier trims. It makes the most sense if you care more about getting into the lineup than chasing maximum performance.
• Macan T: This trim adds a more performance-minded setup than the base model while staying closer to the entry end of the range. It is the best-value choice if you want a more engaging Macan without jumping all the way to the V6-powered versions.
• Macan S: This is the sweet spot for many shoppers because it brings the twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6, stronger performance, and newly standard PASM adaptive damping air suspension. If you want the most balanced mix of speed, ride quality, and equipment, this is the one to target.
• Macan GTS: Choose this if you want the most powerful and most performance-focused version in the lineup, with the highest-output V6 and the sharpest character. It suits you best if driving feel matters more than value.

Every version gets lane-departure warning and a reversing camera, while more advanced driver-assistance features remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Porsche Macan?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 163 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.81% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $53,474 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Porsche Macan's resale value?

The current average of $54,208 CAD sits slightly below last year's $62,897 CAD.

That price movement suggests the 2022 Macan has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it means resale value may remain sensitive to trim, mileage, and equipment because shoppers in this segment have plenty of alternatives and tend to compare condition closely. If you buy well now, you may be better positioned to limit your loss later.

Is the 2022 Porsche Macan safe?

The 2022 Porsche Macan does not have published crash-test ratings from either IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Every model comes with lane-departure warning and a reversing camera, while blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a surround-view camera, and Park Assist are available. Most of those technologies were fitted to the test vehicle, but lane-keeping assist was not.

The main safety caveat is that the Macan does not offer the more advanced driver-assistance depth you may find in some rivals, so you should pay close attention to which optional systems are fitted on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2022 Porsche Macan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.81% compared with last year.
• The 2022 update matters to you because it brings a fresher look, more standard equipment, and a more polished cabin feel.

The bottom line: The 2022 Macan is the right pick if you want the refreshed version of Porsche’s compact SUV and you value performance, style, and a premium driving experience. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2022’s softer pricing and updated equipment make it the cleaner choice for many used buyers.
