Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Nissan Frontier earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10. Owners repeatedly praise its design, comfort, power, and roomy cabin, and the truck’s updated styling and enhanced powertrain make it a strong fit if you want a midsize pickup that feels modern and capable. The overview also points to real off-road capability, which broadens its appeal beyond daily commuting. For used buyers, that means the Frontier can be a compelling choice, but a careful inspection matters if you want to reduce long-term ownership risk.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Frontier?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim gets the standard 8-inch touchscreen, while the SV adds to the lineup and the PRO-4X brings the 9-inch screen, charcoal with red interior accents, and off-road-ready equipment. The base trims are the ones most likely to leave you without the larger display and some of the more premium convenience features.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.8-litre V6 with 310 horsepower and a nine-speed automatic. It delivers strong acceleration and highway passing power, and the transmission is tuned to help with towing and fuel efficiency.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, with blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, intelligent forward collision warning, lane departure warning, trailer sway control, rear-door alert, adaptive cruise control, and an easy-fill tire alert. Traffic sign recognition is offered on the PRO-4X grade.
• Infotainment: The lowest-level S and one-step-up SV trims use an 8-inch touchscreen, while the PRO-4X gets a 9-inch screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, but they require a wired connection; wireless projection is not supported.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel consumption at 13.7 L/100 km in the city, 10.6 L/100 km on the highway, and 12.3 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, PRO-4X.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it gives you the core Frontier experience with the standard 8-inch touchscreen and Nissan Safety Shield 360. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the larger screen and extra convenience features.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it builds on the S with a more complete everyday feature set while staying below the off-road-focused model. If you want a balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the trim to target first.
• PRO-4X: This is the one to choose if you want the most capability and the most equipment, including the 9-inch screen, wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and off-road hardware such as an electronic locking rear differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, skid plates, and a surround-view monitor with off-road mode.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup, while traffic sign recognition is reserved for the PRO-4X.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Frontier?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without waiting for a dramatic bargain.

• Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 102 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.16% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $38,314 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Frontier's resale value?

The current average of $38,610 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,588 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Frontier has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market. If you buy at today’s average, you may have less immediate depreciation pressure than someone who bought when prices were higher. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, especially for a truck with a roomy cabin and strong powertrain appeal. If the market continues to favour value-conscious shoppers, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than trucks with weaker reputations.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier safe?

The new truck offers a bevy of standard advanced driver assistance features under the umbrella of Nissan Safety Shield 360, including blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, intelligent forward collision warning, lane departure warning, trailer sway control, rear-door alert, adaptive cruise control, and an easy-fill tire alert. Eight airbags also come standard, and Nissan offers traffic sign recognition on the PRO-4X grade.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Because the 2022 model had not yet been crash-tested by the NHTSA or IIHS at the time of review, you should lean more heavily on its standard safety equipment and inspection history when shopping used. The PRO-4X gets the extra traffic sign recognition feature, so that trim has the most complete safety package.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned look, a stronger powertrain, and real off-road capability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $41,835 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $38,610 CAD average.
• It adds a few minor tweaks and more standard features.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction. If you prefer a slightly newer truck and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is the cleaner alternative.
