Is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar a good car?

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar earns an 6.8/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It is a strong fit for you if you want a polished, contemporary luxury SUV that leans hard into style and theatre rather than maximum practicality. The Velar is described as the sleekest-looking and nimblest SUV in the Range Rover lineup, and it delivers the brand’s upscale presence in a package that prioritises appearance and driving poise over outright utility.

28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance of finding a competitive listing.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar reliable?

The Velar’s appeal is more about design, refinement, and driving character than a reputation for bulletproof dependability.

Its performance notes point to a chassis that handles and steers unlike earlier Land Rovers, with a smoother, better-controlled ride than the smaller Evoque and a standard all-wheel-drive setup. The expert commentary also notes that electronics have been working well so far, which is encouraging for a used luxury SUV.

Land Rover also includes a useful maintenance perk on the six-cylinder mild-hybrid models: the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a complex luxury SUV, so you should be especially careful about maintenance history, software behaviour, and any signs of expensive electronic or suspension issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim gives you the Velar’s core design and a high-quality cabin, but it is still the least lavish version. Upper trims add extra leather, softer headliners, and richer two-tone seat materials, so you should compare the cabin finish carefully if you want a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: The base 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four makes 247 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six mild-hybrid comes in 335 hp or 395 hp forms. The four-cylinder is adequate, but the six-cylinder is the better choice if you want stronger performance and the premium feel this SUV is meant to deliver.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, and a driver attention monitor. The 360-degree cameras and adaptive cruise control with steering assist are optional, so check whether the example you are considering has them.
• Infotainment: Pivi Pro uses a cleaner layout with fewer icons and more logical menus. The system includes a voice assistant, a reconfigurable instrument panel, and standard features such as LED headlights, automatic high beams, 14-way power heated front seats, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a 12-speaker Meridian sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The base six-cylinder mild-hybrid powertrain is rated at 11.8 L/100 km city, 9.0 highway, and 10.7 combined. The electric-supercharger/turbo combination is rated at 12.4 L/100 km city, 9.4 highway, and 11.2 combined. Four-cylinder models are rated at 11.8 L/100 km city, 9.0 highway, and 10.2 combined.
