Why it stands out
The 2022 Kia Carnival stands out because Kia positions it as something more than a minivan, describing it as a multi-purpose vehicle instead. That identity is reinforced by its crossover SUV-inspired design, which gives it a different look from the usual family hauler, while still aiming to deliver the practicality buyers expect from this kind of vehicle.
Kia also gives the 2022 Carnival a strong appeal through its technology and passenger focus. The company says it offers genuine VIP passenger seating, and the available LX, LX+, EX, EX+, and SX trim levels give shoppers a range of choices. It also replaces the Kia Sedona in the lineup, marking it as a fresh start for the nameplate. Pricing starts at $34,795 and rises to $48,595, before the $1,850 destination charge.
For buyers, the Carnival’s main draw is that it tries to blend style, comfort, and utility in a way that feels more upscale and distinctive than a typical minivan. The trade-off is that its van-like appearance may still be a sticking point for some shoppers, even if the overall package is praised for spaciousness, innovative technology, and comfort.

The technology, comforts and conveniences you get can be found separately in several vehicles in the same class. But only the Carnaval has them all in one platform. SUV looks, Mercedes 12 digital gauge and 12 information screen, Maybach center row reclining seats no one else comes close. The only downside if your brand centric is the Kia logo on the vehicle.

The expert evaluation also describes the Carnival as a cost-effective solution for people-hauling and cargo-carrying needs, which supports the case for steady ownership.
If you want a used family vehicle you can count on for regular duties, the Carnival looks like a sensible bet, though you should still verify maintenance history and overall condition before buying.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Carnival?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: LX and LX+ use the standard grille and 17-inch wheels, while EX adds more upscale touches such as 19-inch machined-finish wheels, simulated open-pore wood trim, and SynTex simulated leather. EX trims and up also get the mirrored grid-pattern grille, and SX adds black wheels, textured metal dashboard trim, real leather, and VIP Lounge Seats.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with 290 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. There is no all-wheel drive or electrified powertrain option.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure and keeping assistance, rear parking sensors, a driver monitoring system, and a reversing camera with dynamic parking guidance lines. EX adds front parking sensors, active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning with collision avoidance, active rear cross-traffic warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. EX+ adds navigation-based adaptive cruise, a surround-view camera system, and Blind View Monitor.
- Infotainment: LX uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and six speakers. EX+ brings a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment system with HD Radio, SiriusXM, voice recognition, an embedded modem for UVO Link connected services, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and eight speakers. EX+ and SX also get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says it should use 10.6 L/100 km in combined driving, and testing returned 10.8 L/100 km.
Which 2022 Kia Carnival trim should I buy?
The 2022 Kia Carnival is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, LX+, EX, EX+, and SX.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Carnival’s core design, the 8-inch touchscreen, and the standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it leaves out several convenience and driver-assistance upgrades found higher up.
- LX+: This trim adds wireless smartphone charging in Canada, making it a practical step up if you want a little more convenience without jumping too far in price.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the most meaningful upgrades, including front parking sensors, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, plus more upscale cabin materials and wheels.
- EX+: Choose this if you want the 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment system, navigation, the surround-view camera system, Blind View Monitor, and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
- SX: This is the most luxurious version, with real leather, black wheels, VIP Lounge Seats, and the 12-speaker Bose audio system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Carnival?
The market looks moderate, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 101 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.89% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $30,412 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Kia Carnival's resale value?
The current average of $31,425 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,075 CAD.
That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price more competitively than owners did a year ago. If you buy now, you may be entering at a softer point in the cycle, which can help limit near-term depreciation. Strong equipment, family appeal, and broad usefulness should still support demand when it comes time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Kia Carnival safe?
The 2022 Kia Carnival earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure and keeping assistance, rear parking sensors, a driver monitoring system, and a reversing camera with dynamic parking guidance lines. EX adds front parking sensors, active blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning with collision avoidance, active rear cross-traffic warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. EX+ adds navigation-based adaptive cruise, a surround-view camera system, and Blind View Monitor.
Every Carnival also includes an ultrasonic rear occupant alert system, which is a useful family-focused safeguard. The main safety caveat is that several of the more advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.
Should I buy a 2022 Kia Carnival or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 26.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.89% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Kia’s all-new debut brings crossover-inspired styling, VIP seating, and strong technology.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $34,473 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $31,425 CAD average.
- It further refines the Carnival’s stylish MPV identity.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter starting point because prices are softer and inventory is available. If you’re willing to pay more for the next model year, the 2023 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2022 first.
