CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 165 currently listed for sale and an average price of $28,552 CAD, 15.8% of 2022 Jeep Wrangler listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4.93 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 5.5 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it remains one of the most distinctive SUVs on the road: a two-door or four-door convertible with removable doors, a fold-down windshield, and genuine off-road ability wrapped in retro styling cues. That combination gives it a character few vehicles can match, and it is a big part of why the Wrangler still feels like a class of one, even if there are now rivals that share some of the same basic formula. It is also a vehicle that is easy to admire for its personality alone, since driving one is described as fun but exhausting, with an element of danger and surprise that keeps it from ever feeling dull.
For buyers, the appeal lies in its mix of multiple powertrain options, strong off-road capability, and a driving experience that is memorable rather than ordinary. At the same time, the Wrangler’s compromises are hard to ignore: poor fuel economy, poor ride quality, and unimpressive safety ratings all come with the package. That balance of strengths and drawbacks is exactly what makes the 2022 Jeep Wrangler distinctive — it is unapologetically specialised, highly capable off-road, and full of character, but it asks its owner to accept real trade-offs in everyday use.

I absolutely LOVE my jeep. It has so many features that are so convenient and worth every extra penny .This is also my first car and I don’t care that I spent more than 50k on a car. I had the money and it’s been my dream car since I was younger. The overall worth to me already is more than what I spent and I’d gladly make the same decision over again. It’s absolutely gorgeous. If you love it, you want it and can afford it, GO FOR IT! Strongly recommend

On the other hand, some shoppers note that it can feel overpriced, and fuel mileage plus certain basic equipment choices can be frustrating.
That fits the Wrangler’s use case well: you buy it for open-air personality, trail ability, and a driving experience that feels unlike a typical SUV. If you want something more ordinary and polished, this is not that vehicle.
Only 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle people can count on for its distinctive character, customisable setup, and off-road capability. The expert evaluation also describes it as a rugged, singularly unique SUV that delivers a memorable ownership experience, especially if you value its long-term appeal as a specialised vehicle.
Jeep also highlights a new air filtration system for this model year, which adds a practical ownership perk.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not outright durability so much as living with the Wrangler’s compromises in fuel use, comfort, and refinement.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The core trims are Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon. Base versions can feel quite basic, while higher trims and special editions add features such as LED exterior lighting, a body-colour hardtop, the Sunrider Fliptop, and other convenience upgrades.
- Powertrain: You can shop for a turbocharged four-cylinder, a gasoline V6, a turbodiesel V6, a gas V8, or the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain. The V6 setup with eTorque mild-hybrid electrification adds a bit of extra electric-motor muscle off the line and can help overall fuel economy.
- Safety package: The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. These features are not standard across the range.
- Infotainment: The basic setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The larger 8.4-inch Uconnect system adds satellite radio, connected services, a WiFi hotspot, navigation, and an Alpine premium audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the eTorque V6 should use 11.2 L/100 km in combined driving. In testing, it averaged 13.4 L/100 km on the route and 14.0 L/100 km over a week.
Which 2022 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest starting point, but you should expect a fairly basic setup and plan on adding equipment carefully.
- Sport S: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it builds on the basics with more everyday usability and is the trim used for the test vehicle’s broader equipment mix.
- Sahara: Choose this if you want a more comfort-leaning Wrangler with a more polished feel than the lower trims.
- Rubicon: Pick this if off-road capability is your priority, since it is the most trail-focused trim in the core lineup.
The Safety Group is a worthwhile upgrade, while the Advanced Safety Group is more of a nice-to-have.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.
- Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 811 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.77% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $35,496 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $35,496 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,779 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Wrangler has already given up some value, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it means the market has been softer than it was a year ago, so resale gains may depend more on trim, condition, and equipment than on the badge alone. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still attract attention, but the broader trend points to a more cautious pricing environment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The Wrangler earns a Marginal rating in IIHS small overlap front crash testing and a Marginal rating in the newer side-impact test, while NHTSA gives it three-star rollover resistance.
It earns a 2/10 safety score from our experts.
The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
The safety equipment is optional rather than standard, and the crash-test results are a clear caution for used buyers who prioritise family protection and everyday peace of mind.
Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.77% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a new air filtration system and a standard 4.88 axle ratio on V6 Rubicons.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $38,590 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $35,496 CAD average.
- It keeps the Wrangler’s trail-first formula but adds more emphasis on off-road hardware choices.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and owner satisfaction is strong. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2023 is the better path for shoppers who want to compare a slightly updated Wrangler against the current-year bargain.
