Is the 2022 Jeep Compass a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Jeep Compass earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

Owners praise its value for money, comfort, and impressive features, and they also highlight the interior design and performance. In use, it is positioned as a small SUV with a more premium image, and the model-year updates make it more appealing than before. You also get a compact SUV that feels more upscale than many mainstream rivals while still carrying Jeep’s off-road identity.

With 28.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Jeep Compass reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with positive comments centred on comfort, value, and features. The expert assessment also describes the Compass as improved for this model year, with added refinement and updated tech that make it feel less obviously cheap than earlier versions. Jeep’s premium positioning and the model’s more polished cabin help support confidence in day-to-day ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the drivetrain and overall driving polish still trail the best compact SUVs, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Compass?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with the Sport trim level, then moves through North, Trailhawk, Limited, RED, and Trailhawk Elite. The cabin becomes far more convincing in Trailhawk Elite specification, with a new dashboard design, updated digital instrumentation and infotainment systems, soft-touch surfaces, luxury-grade leather seats, and added sound deadening. The Trailhawk Elite is the most expensive version, while the Trailhawk trim is the one that brings the more serious off-road hardware.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Compass uses a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 177 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a nine-speed automatic on most models, while front-wheel-drive Sport models use a six-speed automatic. The engine is described as slow and busy, and the drivetrain character is the least appealing part of the vehicle.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are included starting from the Trailhawk grade. Highway Assist is mentioned as a later addition, while parallel and perpendicular parking assistance and a 360-degree surround-view camera are available.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 uses an 8.4-inch touchscreen as standard, with a 10.1-inch screen available on upper grades. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Bluetooth for two devices, satellite radio, voice text-to-reply, and over-the-air updates.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Compass Trailhawk Elite should consume 9.5 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 9.9 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Jeep Compass trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Compass is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, North, Trailhawk, Limited, RED, and Trailhawk Elite.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it makes the Compass accessible if you want the Jeep badge and basic compact-SUV utility without chasing luxury features.
• North: This is the sensible step up if you want a better-equipped Compass without jumping too far in price.
• Trailhawk: This is the best-value trim if you want the Compass’s more serious capability, since it adds the off-road-focused hardware and the key driver-assistance features that start here.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and more comfort-oriented equipment than the lower trims.
• RED: This trim sits above the mainstream versions and is for shoppers who want a more distinctive, premium-leaning specification.
• Trailhawk Elite: This is the most luxurious version, with the richest cabin presentation and the most convincing premium feel.

The Trailhawk grade is also the point where the key safety features begin, so lower trims miss out on some important driver-assistance equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Compass?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 311 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.93% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,671 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Compass's resale value?

The current average of $23,671 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,501 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Compass has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If the market stays steady, a lower entry cost today may reduce the amount of value left to lose later. The model’s premium-brand positioning and strong owner satisfaction can also help support demand when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Compass safe?

The 2022 Jeep Compass earns a three-star rollover resistance rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep improved the Compass’s safety features and driver assistance technologies for 2022, and the Trailhawk grade is where the key active-safety equipment begins in Canada. That includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Parallel and perpendicular parking assistance and a 360-degree surround-view camera are also available.

A caveat to keep in mind is that the available safety tech was not flawless in testing, with some false positives from forward-collision warning and lane-keep assist that felt too obvious at lower speeds.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Compass or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert testing says the 2022 update makes the Compass more refined and better equipped.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $27,510 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,671 CAD average.
• It adds a new turbocharged engine that fixes a major weakness.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the better value if you want a lower purchase price and can live with the older powertrain. If you want the stronger engine and more advanced standard setup, the 2023 is the better upgrade path.

How does the 2022 Jeep Compass compare to the 2022 Mazda CX-30?

Our experts score the 2022 Jeep Compass 6.3/10 and the 2022 Mazda CX-30 8/10. The Compass brings Jeep character, available off-road credibility, and a more premium image, but its powertrain is the weaker part of the package. The CX-30 is the stronger overall choice on expert scoring, while the Compass may still appeal if you value the Jeep identity and the updated tech.
