Is the 2022 GMC Sierra 3500HD a good car?

Generally — the 4.25/5 user rating suggests you’re looking at a well-regarded heavy-duty truck. The 2022 GMC Sierra 3500HD stands out for serious work capability, a broad range of cab, bed, and rear-axle configurations, and a more polished feel than many trucks in its class. It also gives you useful towing-focused equipment and a feature spread that ranges from basic essentials to luxury touches, so it can suit both work and comfort priorities.

That said, its size can make it unwieldy in parking lots, and the top trims can get expensive quickly. Even so, the market shows 18.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

The 2022 GMC Sierra 3500HD is presented as a heavy-duty truck built around capability, towing tech, and a more refined cabin than a bare-bones workhorse. Its broad configuration range also suggests it was designed to serve different job needs without giving up core utility.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a truck this large and highly capable can be costly to live with if you need repairs, upgrades, or higher-trim equipment.

The current average of $67,532 CAD sits slightly below last year's $71,331 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you own one for a few years, the truck’s strong capability and broad appeal should help it remain relevant to shoppers who need serious towing and hauling. The more refined feature set also helps it compete beyond pure work-truck buyers.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Sierra 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 18.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2022 is a strong choice if you want a heavy-duty truck with serious capability, a wide configuration range, and a more polished feel than many rivals. If your priority is stretching your budget, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-priced listings, but if you want a balanced mix of capability and refinement, the 2022 is the better starting point.
