What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The xDrive30i gives you the core X3 experience, while the M40i adds more performance-focused hardware and a more upscale standard equipment list. If you want the best value, the xDrive30i is the trim to focus on first because it captures the refreshed design, standard AWD, and most of the everyday usability without the higher price of the M40i.
• Powertrain: The xDrive30i uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic. The M40i adds a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system, 382 hp, and a more engaging driving character.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. Parking assistance, traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centring, and side collision avoidance are available, so check whether the trim you are considering has the features you want.
• Infotainment: Standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 5.1-inch colour display instrument panel, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, Bluetooth, satellite radio, two USB ports, over-the-air updates, and connected services. An optional Live Cockpit Professional expands both screens to 12.3 inches.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel-efficiency figures for the M40i are not stated here.

Which 2022 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW X3 is offered in 3 trim levels: xDrive30i, M40i, and M.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the trim to start with if you want the best value. It gives you the refreshed styling, standard AWD, the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and the core technology and safety equipment without stepping up to the pricier performance models.
• M40i: Choose this if you want the stronger 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, the mild-hybrid system, and a more performance-oriented feel. It also adds more standard convenience equipment, making it the better pick if you want a more powerful and better-equipped X3.
• M: This trim is the most performance-focused version mentioned here, so it suits you if outright driving excitement matters most.

The safety package is broad across the range, but some advanced driver-assistance features remain optional, so check the exact equipment on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 262 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.64% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,998 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $34,073 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,916 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means a future seller may face more competition when it is time to list the vehicle. If the market stays well supplied, resale values may remain under pressure unless your X3 is especially well equipped or exceptionally clean.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 safe?

The 2022 BMW X3 has been awarded a five-star crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems such as seatbelt tensioners, automatic window closures, post-crash braking, and driver attention alerts.

You should also note that parking assistance, traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centring, and side collision avoidance are available rather than standard, so equipment can vary by trim and package.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a substantial mid-cycle refresh with design tweaks, new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the refreshed X3 with stronger technology and safety content, the 2022 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2022’s combination of softer pricing and updated equipment makes it the better all-around pick for many shoppers.
