What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The xDrive30i is the value-focused choice, while the M40i adds more standard equipment and a stronger performance character. • Powertrain: The xDrive30i uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the M40i uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system and 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Which 2022 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW X3 is offered in 3 trim levels: xDrive30i, M40i, and M.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive30i: This is the best-value trim if you want the core X3 experience without stretching into the pricier performance models. It gives you the refreshed design, standard AWD, the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, and the full standard safety and infotainment suite. If you want the most balanced entry point, this is the one to start with.
• M40i: This is the trim to choose if you want the strongest mix of standard equipment and driving enjoyment. It adds the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder, mild-hybrid system, sport brakes, adaptive suspension, and a more rear-biased AWD tune. It also includes comfort access keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof, and lumbar support as standard, making it the best-value upgrade for shoppers who want more performance and luxury.
• M: The data identifies this trim as part of the lineup, but it does not provide enough detail here to separate it further from the other trims.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, with parking assistance available and additional driver-assistance features offered on higher-spec versions.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 248 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.93% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,448 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $34,448 CAD sits slightly below last year's $40,024 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside for a future seller if prices stay soft. On the other hand, the X3’s strong reputation, premium badge, and high owner satisfaction can help support demand when you eventually resell. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain it well, you should be in a better position than a comparable SUV with weaker brand appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems such as seatbelt tensioners, automatic window closures, post-crash braking, and driver attention alerts. Parking assistance is available, and it adds parking assistance plus, active park distance control, and a 360-degree surround camera view. Optional features include traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centring, and side collision avoidance.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a substantial mid-cycle refresh with new engines, more technology, and an expanded suite of safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date version of this generation, the 2022 is the smart pick because it adds meaningful refresh content without moving into a full redesign. If your priority is simply the lowest purchase price, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2022’s stronger feature set and softened pricing make it the more compelling all-around choice for many used buyers.
