Is the 2022 Audi A4 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Audi A4 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

It stands out as a compact luxury sports sedan that still feels fresh, with a rock-solid structure and modern technology that help it remain an excellent choice in its class. It’s also fun to drive, and its technology is a clear strength.

The trade-offs are worth keeping in mind: the base engine is underwhelming, and the back seat is cramped.

With 35.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a strong-value example.

Is the 2022 Audi A4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The A4’s rock-solid structure and modern technology support the impression of a well-built luxury sedan, and the expert evaluation describes it as remarkably fresh despite its age. Its powertrain is refined, the S-tronic dual-clutch automatic behaves beautifully, and the car feels quiet and unflappable in daily driving.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to standard features that usually matter in long-term ownership, including real wood trim, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, and standard AWD.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the lower-output engine may leave you wanting more, especially if you expect strong acceleration from a luxury sedan.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Audi A4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The A4 lineup includes the A4 sedan, the A4 Allroad wagon, and an S4 performance-tuned model, while the A4 itself comes in 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI model series and Komfort, Progressiv, and Technik trim levels in Canada. The base setup is the most appealing on price, but the higher trims add more of the safety and convenience equipment you may want.
• Powertrain: The 40 TFSI uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, while the 45 TFSI brings 261 hp and 273 lb-ft. Both use a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic and standard Quattro Ultra AWD, and both require premium gas.
• Safety package: Audi Pre Sense includes front and rear collision preparation, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Higher trims can add lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a safe exit warning system, a surround-view camera system, Park Assist, and Matrix-design LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.
• Infotainment: The A4 uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, Audi Connect connected services, wireless smartphone charging, and a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 40 TFSI earns a Natural Resources Canada fuel economy rating of 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, while the 45 TFSI is rated at 8.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Audi A4 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Audi A4 is offered in 6 trim levels: 40 TFSI, 45 TFSI, Komfort, Progressiv, Technik, and S4.

Here's the short version:

• 40 TFSI: This is the value-focused choice if you want the lowest entry price and standard AWD, but it’s also the least powerful version, so it makes the most sense if you prioritise price over pace.
• 45 TFSI: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a much stronger turbo-four and keeps the A4’s core strengths intact without pushing you into S4 territory.
• Komfort: This trim is the starting point if you want the A4 experience with a more accessible equipment mix, and it suits buyers who want the car’s polished feel without chasing the top-end feature set.
• Progressiv: This is the middle-ground pick if you want a more complete luxury and safety package than the entry trim, while still avoiding the highest-priced version.
• Technik: This is the most fully equipped A4 trim and the one that brings the richest safety and convenience content, making it the best fit if you want the most advanced version of the car.
• S4: This is the performance-tuned model for buyers who want the most powerful and sporty version, rather than the standard A4’s balanced luxury-sedan character.

Audi stair-steps availability of the A4’s safety features, so the more you spend, the more driver-assistance equipment you get.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Audi A4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 88 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.11% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,824 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Audi A4's resale value?

The current average of $28,462 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,136 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you’re buying now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The current year-round range suggests there is still meaningful room between the low and high end, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter when you eventually resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Audi A4 safe?

The 2022 Audi A4 gets a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre Sense is the core driver-assistance suite, and it includes front and rear collision preparation, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Higher trims can add lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a safe exit warning system, a surround-view camera system, Park Assist, and Matrix-design LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation.

One caveat from testing is that the adaptive cruise control could react a bit slowly in changing traffic, which means you may need to stay engaged even when the system is active.

Should I buy a 2022 Audi A4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for feeling remarkably fresh, with rock-solid structure and modern technology that still make it an excellent compact luxury sports sedan.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of freshness, safety, and technology, the 2022 is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully within this year’s softened market and focus on the better-equipped trims or the best-priced examples.

How does the 2022 Audi A4 compare to the 2022 BMW 3 Series?

Our experts score the 2022 Audi A4 8.3/10 and the 2022 BMW 3 Series 8.7/10. The BMW has the edge on overall expert score and horsepower, while the Audi counters with a lower average used price and a stronger share of good and great deals.
