Used 2021 Volvo XC40 for Sale nearRichmond, BC

How much does the 2021 Volvo XC40 cost?

Prices have softened 11.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 55 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC40 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

The 2021 XC40 stands out because it adds an all-electric powertrain option to the lineup, while the gasoline models carry over largely unchanged. For you, that means the year’s appeal depends on whether you want the Recharge’s zero-emission setup and updated tech, or a conventional XC40 with familiar luxury crossover packaging.

The market also shows 30.9% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC40 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC40’s appeal is reinforced by its premium-feeling cabin, thoughtful design, and the fact that Volvo built the CMA platform to support both gasoline and electric powertrains from the start. The Recharge also benefits from an electric-specific setup with a battery safety cage and a redesigned front crash structure, which supports confidence in the vehicle’s engineering.

Volvo’s standard warranty coverage is also a plus for ownership peace of mind, and the Recharge adds battery warranty coverage on top of that. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Recharge’s range and utility are less compelling than some rivals, so condition and charging needs matter more than usual.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volvo XC40?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Recharge stands apart from gasoline XC40 models with a blanked-off grille, model-specific wheels, a gloss black roof and mirror caps, and a model-exclusive Sage Green Metallic colour. It is a good fit if you want the electric version without a flashy look.
• Powertrain: The gasoline XC40 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the Recharge uses dual electric motors for AWD and a 78-kWh battery pack with 75 kWh of usable capacity.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, traffic-sign recognition, and reverse automatic emergency braking. Pilot Assist and a 360-degree camera are optional.
• Infotainment: The Recharge gets a 9-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, built-in Google apps through Android Automotive OS, wireless-style convenience through Google integration, and OTA update capability for vehicle software.
• Fuel efficiency: The T4 is rated at 9.3 L/100 km combined, while the T5 is rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined. The Recharge is rated at 3.0 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres combined with a 335-kilometre range.

Which 2021 Volvo XC40 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volvo XC40 is offered in 4 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, Recharge.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the entry point for the gasoline XC40 lineup, and it makes sense if you want the XC40’s style and standard AWD without paying for extra trim content.
• R-Design: Choose this if you want a sportier appearance and a more expressive version of the XC40 without moving into the top trim.
• Inscription: This is the most upscale gasoline trim, so it suits you if you want the most premium-feeling XC40 with the richest presentation.
• Recharge: This is the best-value choice if you want the year’s biggest change: the all-electric XC40 with Android Automotive OS, OTA updates, and the most distinctive powertrain in the lineup.

The Recharge also gets Volvo’s latest sensor suite, which is scalable for future driver aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volvo XC40?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 55 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.14% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,861 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volvo XC40's resale value?

The current average of $28,400 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,959 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking an immediate depreciation hit. For a future seller, the key will be keeping the vehicle in strong condition and avoiding overpaying today.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC40 safe?

The 2021 Volvo XC40 received the highest Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it earns five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with five-star ratings in frontal-crash and side-crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, traffic-sign recognition, and reverse automatic emergency braking. Pilot Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring, is optional.

Should I buy a 2021 Volvo XC40 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the XC40 Recharge, Volvo’s first mass-market pure electric vehicle.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $30,747 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $28,400 CAD average.
• It carries over as a mostly unchanged electric XC40 with standard AWD and a longer-range EV focus.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the most interesting mix of price, availability, and the debut of the Recharge. If you’re shopping strictly for the lowest entry cost, the 2021 also gives you a softer market than the 2022, while still delivering the year’s key update.
