2021 Nissan Titan test drive
overall

The Nissan Titan was significantly refreshed for the 2020 model year and carries all its goodies over to 2021. That includes the most standard power, technology, and safety features in its class.
The full-size pickup truck market is extremely competitive. There are brand loyalists left and right who will swear up and down that they won’t buy a Nissan truck. But there’s plenty of reason to give the Titan a test drive. Note that while the Titan will continue in the United States, this is the last year before it will be discontinued in Canada at the end of the 2021 model year. At that point, Nissan's truck customers will be pointed toward the new mid-size Frontier.

Great truck. Comfortable and powerful. Love the V8. Seems to be the only full size truck without serious drivetrain problems.

I have the pro 4x with heated/ac seats and moon roof package. This is the 3rd Nissan I have purchased and the quality and dependability is great. This has plenty of power while still getting good mpg.

This truck is probably the best value for your money in any vehicle. Being that the Titan S is pretty much the base model, it has what every modern day base model vehicle should have in features (wireless CarPlay, backup camera with parking sensors, decent size touch screen display, blind spot mirrors, etc) . Other models like the f150, ram 1500 or Chevy 1500, have very crazy unreliability compared to the Titan, I have test drove all other brands and models in the same class (base model) and 10 times out of 10 I’ll pick the Titan, not only for price but for its features and reliability.

Is the 2021 Nissan Titan a good car?
Yes — it earns 4.8/5 from owners and 8.2/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the powerful engine, comprehensive safety features, comfort, and strong on- and off-road performance. They also frequently mention the great warranty and the Titan’s exceptional value compared with other brands.
With 40% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a fairly favourable market to shop in.
Is the 2021 Nissan Titan reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a truck that feels dependable and trouble-free, with many drivers saying it’s a vehicle they can count on over the long term.
The Titan’s strong powertrain character and solid day-to-day usability support that impression, and Nissan’s five-year/160,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper warranty adds peace of mind for used buyers. The main long-term ownership risk to watch is whether the truck’s higher-speed vibrations or other wear-related issues show up in the example you’re considering.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Nissan Titan?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Titan is offered in three Crew Cab trims: SV, Pro-4X, and Platinum Reserve. The SV has a dark grille, the Pro-4X gets a black grille and lava-red tow hooks, and the Platinum Reserve uses a satin chrome grille and matching tailgate finishers. If you want the most distinctive off-road look and hardware, the Pro-4X is the one to focus on.
- Powertrain: You get one engine: a 5.6-litre V8 with 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It’s strong off the line, but it is not the most fuel-efficient setup in the class.
- Safety package: Every Titan comes with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. Forward-collision warning and parking sensors are also included, while Around View Monitor, adaptive cruise control, driver-alertness monitor, traffic-sign recognition, and rear door alert are available.
- Infotainment: The standard 9.0-inch WXGA touchscreen is the largest standard-sized screen in its class. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, two USB ports, and satellite radio are standard, while navigation, HD Radio, extra USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and a household-style power outlet are available.
- Fuel efficiency: With 4WD, Natural Resources Canada says the Titan averages 15.2 L/100 km in the city, 11.1 L/100 km on the highway, and 13.4 L/100 km combined. The Pro-4X grade is slightly higher at 15.4 L/100 km city, 11.4 L/100 km highway, and 13.6 L/100 km combined.
Which 2021 Nissan Titan trim should I buy?
The 2021 Nissan Titan is offered in 3 trim levels: SV, Pro-4X, and Platinum Reserve.
Here's the short version:
- SV: This is the starting point and the value play if you want the Titan’s core strengths without stretching the budget. You still get the standard safety suite, the 9.0-inch touchscreen, and the full-size V8 powertrain.
- Pro-4X: This is the best fit if you want the Titan’s off-road-focused hardware and the most character. It adds unique off-road-centric equipment, including hill-descent control and an electronic locking rear differential, plus the distinctive grille and lava-red accents.
- Platinum Reserve: This is the most upscale choice, with the satin chrome grille and matching exterior details. Pick it if you want the most premium look and feel in the Titan lineup.
Every Titan includes Nissan Safety Shield 360, so you’re getting the same core driver-assistance suite across the range.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Nissan Titan?
It’s a favourable time to shop if you want a Titan, because the market shows meaningful deal availability and a very small inventory pool.
- Deal availability: 40% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 10 listings available.
Is the 2021 Nissan Titan safe?
The 2021 Nissan Titan earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Every Titan comes with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. Forward-collision warning and parking sensors are also included, and available features include Around View Monitor, adaptive cruise control, driver-alertness monitor, traffic-sign recognition, and rear door alert.
A key strength is that rear automatic braking is standard, and the Titan’s safety equipment is broad for the class.
Should I buy a 2021 Nissan Titan or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 40% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 model year is the last before the Titan is discontinued in Canada at the end of the year, so it represents the final Canadian-market version.
The bottom line: If you want the Titan’s strongest Canadian-market send-off, the 2021 is the one to target. If you’re price-sensitive, the small pool of listings means you should focus on condition, equipment, and deal quality rather than waiting for a much broader selection.
How does the 2021 Nissan Titan compare to the 2021 Ford F-150?
Our experts score the 2021 Nissan Titan 8.2/10 and the 2021 Ford F-150 7.8/10. The Titan stands out for its standard V8 power, strong safety equipment, and better deal share in the listings data. The F-150 counters with a much larger inventory and broader market availability, which gives you more choice if you’re shopping for a used full-size truck.
| Spec | 2021 Nissan Titan | 2021 Ford F-150 |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 5.6L 400 hp V8 | 3.3L 290 hp V6 Flex Fuel Vehicle |
| MPG/MPGe (city) | 16 | 20 |
