Is the 2021 Kia Telluride a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Kia Telluride earns a 4.89/5 user rating and a 9.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its safety features, spacious interior, and strong value for money, and they also like the modern design and advanced technology. In use, it is positioned as a three-row midsize SUV that aims to give you a premium-feeling family hauler without pushing you into a luxury-brand price bracket.

With 28.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still a meaningful share of the market that looks attractive to shoppers.

Is the 2021 Kia Telluride reliable?

Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its safety features, spacious interior, and strong value. That kind of satisfaction usually matters most when you want a family SUV you can count on over the long term.

The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing the Telluride as a cost-effective choice in its segment, backed by strong packaging, utility, and overall value. Kia’s warranty coverage adds another layer of reassurance for used buyers, though you should still check service history carefully because long-term ownership always depends on how the previous owner maintained the vehicle.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Telluride?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The EX gives you significant value, while the SX Limited adds premium stitched Nappa leather, a simulated suede headliner, a head-up display, and heated and ventilated front- and second-row seats. The SX Limited Nightsky Edition adds a blacked-out look with gloss black 20-inch wheels and a unique grille insert. If you want the most upscale feel, the SX Limited is the one to focus on.
• Powertrain: You get a single powertrain: a 3.8-litre V6 with an eight-speed automatic transmission, 291 horsepower, and 262 lb-ft of torque. The AWD system includes a low-speed Lock function, and the SUV’s 20.3 centimetres of ground clearance helps it handle low-grip conditions.
• Safety package: Every version includes blind-spot warning, lane-maintenance technology with lane-keeping assistance, forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian and cyclist detection, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-monitoring system, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Assist. SX trim adds front parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and Blind-Spot View Monitor.
• Infotainment: Every 2021 Telluride has a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless smartphone charging, and the ability to pair two phones at once. SX trim adds a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and Limited grades add a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Telluride should return 11.3 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test loop result was 11.5 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Kia Telluride trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Telluride is offered in 4 trim levels: EX, SX, SX Limited, and SX Limited Nightsky Edition.

Here's the short version:

• EX: This is the value pick because it already gives you the Telluride’s core strengths, including standard AWD, the 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, and the full suite of standard driver-assistance features. If you want the best balance of equipment and price, this is the trim to start with.
• SX: This trim adds the 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and brings in the SX-exclusive safety upgrades, including front parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and Blind-Spot View Monitor. It suits you if you want more convenience and a more premium feel without going all the way to the top.
• SX Limited: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with premium stitched Nappa leather, a simulated suede headliner, a head-up display, and heated and ventilated front- and second-row seats. It is the best fit if you want the most upscale cabin experience.
• SX Limited Nightsky Edition: This is the style-focused choice, adding the blacked-out appearance treatment and gloss black 20-inch wheels. Choose it if the visual package matters most to you.

The SX trim’s extra safety equipment is worth noting if you want the added camera-based blind-spot view and parking aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Telluride?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 128 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.63% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,242 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Telluride's resale value?

The current average of $30,037 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,465 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may face more competition when it is time to trade in or list the vehicle. If you buy now, you are entering at a lower price point than owners saw a year ago, which can help soften depreciation pressure later.

The Telluride’s strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time, especially because shoppers continue to value its safety, space, and overall usefulness. Even so, resale performance will still depend on trim, condition, mileage, and maintenance history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Telluride safe?

The 2021 Telluride earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal-impact results for both the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Kia equips every version with a broad set of standard driver-assistance features, including blind-spot warning, lane-maintenance technology with lane-keeping assistance, forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian and cyclist detection, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-monitoring system, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Assist.

One thing to keep in mind is that the NHTSA frontal-impact result is lower than the overall rating, so you should pay attention to how the vehicle has been maintained and whether any crash damage has been repaired properly.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Telluride or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model year’s standout is the debut of the SX Limited Nightsky Edition, which gives you a fresh appearance package without changing the Telluride’s core strengths.

The bottom line: If you want the Telluride’s core formula at a lower entry price, the 2021 is a smart used buy. If you are especially price-sensitive, this model year’s softer pricing makes it easier to find value, but you should still compare condition and trim carefully because the best-equipped versions can climb quickly in price.
