What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the only trim offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive in Canada, while the EX, EX Premium, and SX Turbo all include standard AWD. The LX has the basics covered with heated front seats, remote keyless entry, power windows, and an 8-inch touchscreen, but the higher trims add more comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: The LX, EX, and EX Premium use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 146 horsepower and a CVT. The SX Turbo upgrades to a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder with 175 horsepower and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, which gives you much stronger passing power.
• Safety package: The LX includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a feature that can detect whether it is safe to exit the vehicle when parallel parking. All trims but the LX add collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. The EX Premium and SX Turbo add adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go.
• Infotainment: The LX and EX get an 8-inch touchscreen, while the EX Premium and SX Turbo upgrade to a 10.25-inch screen. Wireless phone charging appears on the EX Premium, and the SX Turbo adds a Bose premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-litre engine with front-wheel drive uses 8.2 L/100 km in the city, 7.1 on the highway, and 7.7 combined. With AWD, that rises to 8.8 city, 7.6 highway, and 8.2 combined. The 1.6-litre AWD model is rated at 9.4 city, 7.9 highway, and 8.7 combined.

Which 2021 Kia Seltos trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Seltos is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX Premium, and SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want useful standard equipment like heated front seats, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is the best fit if you want the essentials without stretching the budget.
• EX: This trim adds a sunroof, automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, and 17-inch alloy wheels, making it a sensible step up if you want more comfort and a more polished cabin.
• EX Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen, wireless phone charging, LED headlights and fog lamps, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting.
• SX Turbo: Choose this one if you want the strongest engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, an upgraded audio system, and additional driver-assistance features.

The safety package is strongest on the EX Premium and SX Turbo, which add adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.

• Deal availability: 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 306 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.77% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,293 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Seltos's resale value?

The current average of $19,522 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,127 CAD.

That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper resale expectations if you plan to sell soon. If prices stay near this level, future sellers may need to lean more on condition, trim, and equipment to justify a stronger asking price. Well-equipped trims with desirable features should hold broader appeal than stripped-down examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Seltos safe?

The 2021 Kia Seltos earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, including four-star ratings for frontal crash and rollover and five-star ratings for side impacts.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and child-seat anchor latches for the rear seats. In Canada, the LX also gets blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a feature that can detect whether it is safe to exit the vehicle when parallel parking. All trims but the LX add collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. The EX Premium and SX Turbo add adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go.

One caveat is that the driver-assistance suite is not standard across the whole range, so you will want to confirm the exact trim before you buy.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Seltos or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a high-quality cabin, refined driving dynamics, and strong cabin and cargo space.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,159 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,522 CAD average.
• It adds a practical mix of space, easy-to-use technology, and a strong warranty.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the stronger starting point. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2022 may appeal, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2021’s lower average cost and solid owner satisfaction.
