CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Hyundai Tucson

Summary
With 147 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,246 CAD, 30.6% of 2021 Hyundai Tucson listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Hyundai Tucson 4.83 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Hyundai Tucson stands out as a compact SUV that leans heavily on value, offering a lot of features for the money while keeping the practical, easy-to-live-with character that has long defined the nameplate. It also benefits from the Tucson’s reputation as a strong deal in the compact SUV class, with later models noted for having fewer drawbacks than earlier ones. Owners of the 2021 model are especially positive about its comfort, handling, and the amount of equipment it offers for the price.
For this model year, the Tucson’s standard powertrain is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available, and the suspension is tuned for comfort rather than excitement. That makes it a smooth, relaxed daily driver, but it is also one of the slower SUVs in its class, taking 10 seconds to reach 100 km/h. In Canada, the 2021 Tucson sits within a trim walk that includes Essential, Preferred, N Line, Luxury, and Ultimate, with the base trim already bringing LED headlights, heated front seats, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a broad suite of driver-assistance features.
The 2021 Tucson also has a few limitations buyers should keep in mind. The ride-focused tuning means it is not especially engaging to drive, and some owners wished for features such as a sunroof or found that certain promised packages were missing. Even so, its combination of comfort, useful technology, and strong value helps explain why it remains appealing to shoppers looking for a well-equipped compact SUV.

CPO so 10/10,000 warranty still valid. Reliable car, nice features, good gas mileage, good value. Pickup lacking but that’s because I was driving a v8 prior.

I was looking for a car that my family could comfortably ride in, and the Tucson was the perfect car for that. Its easy to drive and the ride quality is pretty good. Above all, the long warranty allows you to drive with confidence. However, drivers who seek the fun of driving may not be interested. I think I purchased it for my own purposes.

I really like the blind spot warning signal and the back up camera as well. I thought this car was a great price for only 1 owner, no accidents & low mileage. This car was missing the cargo pkg that should have came with the car as promised. I didn’t shop around for any other models, since this was the only one I wanted. My 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited, I bought brand new and would have kept it for the rest of my life, but on March 20, 2023 it was totaled in an accident.

How much does the 2021 Hyundai Tucson cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,475 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $20,388 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $23,532 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,525 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.97% |
Prices have softened 12.97% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 462 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.83/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its comfort, great handling, and impressive features for the price. That fits well if you want a practical compact SUV that is easy to live with and well equipped for daily driving. With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a value-focused example.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centred on comfort and the sense that it holds up well over time. For used buyers, that kind of long-term confidence can reduce the risk of unpleasant surprises, especially if you choose a well-maintained example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 462 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.97% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $20,388 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $20,475 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,525 CAD.
That decline suggests the market has become more buyer-friendly, which can make the Tucson easier to purchase now but may also limit short-term upside for a future seller. If you buy at the right price, you may have less depreciation pressure than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.97% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $22,832 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $20,475 CAD average.
- The redesign adds more space and a more modern cabin.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2021 if you want the stronger value play and are comfortable with its older design. If you want more space and a newer-feeling cabin, the 2022 is the better upgrade, but you will pay more for it. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2021 remains the smarter starting point.
