Is the 2021 Cadillac XT5 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Cadillac XT5 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its luxurious feel, smooth ride, powerful performance, and spacious interior. The overview also frames it as a polished premium SUV with broad appeal for buyers who want refinement, comfort, and a well-equipped cabin rather than standout speed.

Cadillac’s maintenance and ownership costs are helped by the XT5’s competitive positioning among premium rivals, and the available first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-spec examples can be expensive to keep if they were heavily optioned or not maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Cadillac XT5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Luxury trim is the most basic version, while Premium Luxury adds more upscale appointments and can be equipped with the V6. The Sport trim brings a more aggressive look and the V6 as standard, but the content also notes that the Sport model’s stiffer ride may not suit everyone.
• Powertrain: You can shop the XT5 with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder or an available 3.6-litre V6. The V6 is smoother and stronger, while the base engine is the efficiency-focused choice.
• Safety package: The XT5 includes front automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert with side blind-zone alert, rear-seat reminder, and a rearview camera. Not all technologies are standard or available on every trim, and Cadillac’s more advanced driver-assist features are limited compared with true luxury rivals.
• Infotainment: The XT5 uses a standard 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. A 14-speaker Bose Performance Series audio system, head-up display, and rear camera mirror are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine uses 9.5 L/100 km combined with FWD and 10.1 L/100 km with AWD. The available V6 was tested at roughly 9.4 L/100 km in mixed driving, and Natural Resources Canada estimated 11.2 L/100 km combined for the V6 powertrain.

Which 2021 Cadillac XT5 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Cadillac XT5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport.

Here's the short version:

• Luxury: This is the entry point and makes the XT5 accessible with the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine and standard FWD. It suits you if you want the XT5’s premium feel without stretching into higher-priced trims.
• Premium Luxury: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds a more upscale presentation and can be paired with the available V6 and AWD. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort, equipment, and everyday usability, start here.
• Sport: Choose this if you want the V6 as standard and prefer the more aggressive character and appearance. It is the right pick if you value the sportier setup more than ride comfort.

The safety content notes that not all technologies are standard or available in all trim levels, so it is worth checking the exact equipment list on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Cadillac XT5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile examples.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 72 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.17% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,175 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Cadillac XT5's resale value?

The current average of $30,445 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,063 CAD.

That decline suggests the XT5 has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price carefully to stay competitive. If you own one, the current market points to softer resale conditions than a year ago, especially if your vehicle is not especially well equipped or well presented.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Cadillac XT5 safe?

The XT5 earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Its safety technology includes front automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert with side blind-zone alert, rear-seat reminder, and a rearview camera. Cadillac also offers Night Vision, which can help you spot hazards in the dark, and Teen Driver software is standard for parents who want to monitor or limit certain vehicle functions.

One caveat is that the XT5’s safety suite is not as comprehensive as the nanny-like systems offered by some German rivals, and not all technologies are standard or available on every trim.

Should I buy a 2021 Cadillac XT5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers a polished premium feel with broad equipment and a balanced driving character.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,536 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $30,445 CAD average.
• It adds front Brembo brakes, red calipers, and new 20-inch wheels on the Sport trim.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the strongest value and a well-equipped premium SUV at a lower average price. If you are willing to pay more for a slightly updated 2022, that makes sense mainly when you specifically want the Sport trim changes or prefer shopping a newer model year.
