Is the 2021 Audi Q5 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Audi Q5 earns a 4.75/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

The Q5’s appeal is rooted in its premium compact-SUV use case: you get a classy, modern cabin, strong fit and finish, and an electrified option that fits Audi’s broader push toward hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. It also brings a polished driving experience with good handling and a well-integrated plug-in setup. 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Audi Q5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Q5’s second-generation platform and its established plug-in hybrid setup point to a mature design rather than a brand-new experiment. The expert assessment also highlights a well-executed electrified drivetrain and a high-quality overall package, which supports confidence in day-to-day use. The plug-in hybrid system adds complexity compared with a conventional gas model, so used buyers should pay close attention to charging behaviour, battery-related operation, and service history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Audi Q5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The plug-in hybrid model is offered as Progressiv and Technik. The higher trim brings more equipment, while the entry trim is the one to focus on if you want the best value.
• Powertrain: The plug-in hybrid pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a 14.1-kWh battery. It produces 362 hp and 373 lb-ft of torque, with up to 31 kilometres of battery-only driving depending on state of charge.
• Safety package: Audi Pre Sense front, Audi Side Assist with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic congestion assist, traffic-sign recognition, Audi active lane assist, and hands-on detection are available. Some of these systems are not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: You get Audi’s 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen, a 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit Plus display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and OTA capability is not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The plug-in hybrid is rated at 4.7 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres combined. In gasoline-only mode, it uses 8.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined.

Which 2021 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Audi Q5 is offered in 2 trim levels: Progressiv and Technik.

Here's the short version:

• Progressiv: This is the trim to target if you want the plug-in hybrid experience without paying extra for the top trim. It gives you the core Q5 PHEV package, including the electrified drivetrain, strong efficiency, and the upscale Audi cabin that makes the model appealing in the first place.
• Technik: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped version and are willing to pay more for it. It suits you best if you value the richest feature set and want the most premium take on the Q5 PHEV.

The safety package includes Audi Pre Sense front, Audi Side Assist with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic congestion assist, traffic-sign recognition, Audi active lane assist, and hands-on detection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Audi Q5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 212 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.38% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,386 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $27,386 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,617 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. A well-kept example should still attract interest because the Q5’s premium image and electrified appeal remain part of its draw.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2021 Q5 PHEV hasn’t been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) yet, but the 2020 Q5 received top good ratings in every category except headlights, where it received a marginal rating. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2021 Audi Q5 gasoline model five-star ratings, but has not yet rated the PHEV.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Safety features include six airbags, an anti-lock braking system with brake assist, low-speed collision assist, power child safety locks in the rear doors, electronic stability control with off-road mode, electronic vehicle immobilization, anti-theft alarm, interior motion sensor, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights, LATCH connectors on outboard rear seats, a rearview camera, and a tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Available driver-assistance features include Audi Pre Sense front, Audi Side Assist with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic congestion assist, traffic-sign recognition, Audi active lane assist, and hands-on detection to ensure you’re actively driving while using these additional systems.

Should I buy a 2021 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model year continues the Q5 plug-in hybrid approach, giving you an electrified option within Audi’s compact luxury SUV lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the Q5 with its plug-in hybrid option and you value the current price softness, the 2021 is a sensible year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop the broader Q5 market and compare nearby years, but the 2021 stands out for buyers who want the electrified version without stepping into a newer, pricier model year.
