The expert review also points to its stylish design and polished road manners, which fit well if you want a full-size pickup that feels more refined than purely utilitarian. The main trade-offs are Bluetooth connectivity issues and a desire for more storage, while the expert review notes that advanced safety features are not standard. What should I look for when buying a used 2020 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tradesman starts with a 5-inch touchscreen, vinyl upholstery and flooring, a bench seat, steel wheels, and a 6-speaker stereo, while the Big Horn adds fog lights, carpet, tinted windows, and access to more comfort and tech options. The Rebel brings a lifted, off-road suspension, off-road tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and LED lighting, while the Laramie and above add more luxury and more available safety equipment. The base trim is the most stripped-down, so you should check whether it has the features you want.
• Powertrain: The 3.6-litre V6 makes 305 horsepower and uses eTorque mild-hybrid assistance, while the 5.7-litre Hemi V8 makes 395 hp. The 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 returns 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, and the expert review notes that it still has some turbo lag and can feel short on power when merging.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Most safety features are available across the lineup, but parking sensors and forward-collision and lane-departure mitigation are limited to Laramie and above.
• Infotainment: Screen sizes include a 5-inch unit, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and an available 12-inch tablet-style touchscreen. The system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on the 8.4-inch setup, and the truck also offers push-button start plus plenty of USB and USB-C ports.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel is rated at 11.1 L/100 km city, 8.0 L/100 km highway, and 9.7 L/100 km combined with 4WD. The 3.6-litre V6 is rated at 12.2 L/100 km city, 9.7 L/100 km highway, and 11.1 L/100 km combined with 4WD.

Which 2020 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2020 RAM 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-focused starting point if you want a capable work truck and can live with the most basic cabin. It includes the essentials, but you should expect the fewest comfort and tech features.
• Big Horn: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it opens the door to the 8.4-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, and available air suspension. It gives you the most flexibility without jumping straight to luxury pricing.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want the most aggressive look and the off-road hardware the review highlights, including lifted suspension, skid plates, tow hooks, and off-road tires. It also gets the diesel engine this year.
• Laramie: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, driver memory, parking sensors, and a better stereo. It suits you if comfort matters as much as capability.
• Longhorn: Pick this if you want a more premium, western-themed luxury feel with upgraded leather, wood trim, rear-seat heating and ventilation, navigation, and standard spray-in bed liner. It is the most distinctive blend of luxury and truck utility.
• Limited: This is the top choice if you want the most standard luxury and the strongest safety content, including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and standard air suspension. It is the most complete trim, but also the most expensive.

For safety equipment, note that most advanced features are not standard on the lower trims, and some are reserved for Laramie and above.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,738 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.77% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $31,129 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $31,144 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,703 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the truck easier to buy now but may also limit near-term upside for a future seller. If you plan to resell later, the current pricing trend means you should be realistic about depreciation from today’s level. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, but the market is still pricing this model more cautiously than it was a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2020 RAM 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Most of those features are available across the lineup, but parking sensors and forward-collision and lane-departure mitigation are limited to Laramie and above. The main caveat is that the Top Safety Pick Plus result applies only to the Crew Cab with all active safety equipment and optional LED lights.

Should I buy a 2020 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for the return of the EcoDiesel engine across the lineup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,476 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $31,144 CAD average.
• It adds the TRX performance trim for buyers who want serious high-performance intent.

The bottom line: Choose the 2020 if you want the better price and the unique diesel story. If you are price-sensitive, the 2020 is the smarter buy; if you want the most extreme performance option, look to the 2021.
