CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Summary
With 59 currently listed for sale and an average price of $41,055 CAD, 25.4% of 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport stands out as a luxury SUV that blends serious off-road ability with high-end road manners. Land Rover’s four-wheel-drive expertise gives it unusual credibility in harsh terrain and climates, while the Range Rover Sport’s appeal also comes from its sports car-like performance and lavish cabin. For buyers, that combination makes it feel more special than many midsize luxury SUVs, even if its reliability, service costs, and fuel consumption make it a difficult used purchase to recommend without caution.
For 2020, the second-generation Range Rover Sport added a plug-in hybrid called the P400e, using a turbo inline-4 and a 13-kWh battery for 398 hp and a Natural Resources Canada-estimated 51 kilometres of electric range. That same generation had already been improved by an aluminium unibody, which reduced weight and made the SUV smoother, quicker, and roomier than before. It also offered an updated Terrain Response 2 system, electric power steering, and torque vectoring on the rear axle, all of which helped sharpen handling and grip.
There are still compromises to consider. The Range Rover Sport’s fuel economy remained a weak point overall, and Land Rover’s pricing positioned it as an expensive vehicle even when new. But for shoppers who want a used luxury SUV with genuine off-road hardware, strong performance, and a more upscale feel than its practical rivals, the 2020 Range Rover Sport has a distinctive mix of capability and prestige.

The overview points to a luxury SUV that combines serious off-road ability with high-end road manners, plus sports car-like performance and a lavish cabin. It also stands out for buyers who want genuine capability and a more special feel than many midsize luxury SUVs, especially if you value its blend of prestige and versatility. If you find a listing below $40,903 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport's resale value?
The current average of $41,406 CAD sits slightly below last year's $50,293 CAD.
That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the vehicle more approachable for you as a buyer but less favourable if you are planning to sell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the SUV in strong condition, you may be able to limit some of that depreciation pressure. The model’s premium positioning can still support demand, but resale will depend heavily on maintenance and overall condition.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.67% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the better path if you want this model’s mix of luxury, performance, and off-road credibility, especially now that prices have eased. If you are more price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
