Is the 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty earns 4.8/5 from owners and 7.7/10 from experts.

The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Drivers consistently praise its power, comfort, towing capability, smooth transmission, and strong diesel engine. In practical terms, that lines up well with a truck aimed at buyers who need serious work capability while still wanting a spacious cabin.

The main trade-offs are a rougher ride when unloaded and an interior that does not feel especially refined. Even so, the market shows 21.3% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, with praise for its power, comfort, towing ability, and strong diesel engine. Reviewers also describe it as a vehicle you can count on for demanding use over the long haul.

The expert assessment also supports that view by describing these trucks as designed for the long-haul, with many examples offering plenty of hard-working years ahead of them. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright fragility and more about finding one that has been maintained properly after a hard working life.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is the most basic work-truck version, with a black grille, black bumpers, 17-inch steel wheels, vinyl upholstery, a 2.3-inch in-dash screen, and an AM/FM/MP3 stereo with four speakers. The XLT adds brightwork, 18-inch alloy wheels, cloth seating, power doors and locks, satellite radio, a 4.2-inch colour screen, and an 8-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen. The Lariat adds leather front seats, power-adjustable front seats, and a larger 8-inch colour screen. The King Ranch brings a unique two-tone look and a more upscale saddle leather interior. The Platinum adds 20-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, chrome window treatment, power-retractable running boards, and massaging seats. The Limited adds a twin-panel moonroof and the most luxury-focused cabin. If you want the best value, the XLT and Lariat are the trims to focus on first.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 6.2-litre gasoline V8, and Ford also offers a 7.3-litre gas V8 and a 6.7L Power Stroke turbodiesel V8. Both gas engines use a 10-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel uses a six-speed TorqShift automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive with low range is optional. The diesel is the torque leader, while the gas engines are described as well matched to the transmission and surprisingly usable in everyday driving.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, trailer sway control, hill start assist, and AdvanceTrac traction control with roll stability control. Optional driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera system. Advanced safety features are not standard, so you should check carefully for the options you want.
• Infotainment: The base XL gets a 2.3-inch in-dash screen, while the XLT adds an 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3. SYNC is described as intuitive and sensibly laid out, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. FordPass Connect is standard across the lineup and includes a WiFi hot spot for up to 10 devices, plus remote vehicle functions through a smartphone app.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada does not require heavy-duty pickups to post fuel consumption estimates.

Which 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most basic work-focused choice, with vinyl upholstery, a small in-dash screen, and the fewest comfort features. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and do not need much luxury.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cloth seating, power doors and locks, satellite radio, an 8-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen, and more everyday convenience without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather front seats, power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a larger instrument-panel display. It is a strong choice if you want comfort without going all the way to luxury-trim pricing.
• King Ranch: This trim is for you if you want a distinctive look and a richer cabin, with unique saddle leather, voice-activated navigation, heated-and-cooled front seats, heated rear seats in Crew Cab models, remote start, and a heated steering wheel.
• Platinum: This is the more luxury-forward option, with massaging seats, 20-inch wheels, LED fog lights, chrome window treatment, and power-retractable running boards.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice if you want the most upscale presentation, including the twin-panel moonroof and the most premium cabin treatment in the lineup.

The Tremor package is available on XLT-and-up trims, while the FX4 off-road package adds upgraded shocks, skid plates, and Trail Control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it is worth shopping carefully and comparing listings.

• Deal availability: 21.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 75 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.18% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $43,252 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $44,365 CAD sits slightly below last year's $50,520 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you are planning to sell soon. A softer market usually means future sellers may need to price more competitively to attract attention.

Even so, the truck’s strong capability and broad appeal should help it remain relevant with work-focused buyers. Well-equipped examples can still hold interest because shoppers in this segment often value condition, configuration, and equipment as much as age alone.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty safe?

The 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, trailer sway control, hill start assist, and AdvanceTrac traction control with roll stability control. Optional driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera system.

A key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you may need to move up the trim ladder or find a well-equipped used example to get the protection tech you want.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 21.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a second gas engine option for 2020, giving you more choice in the powertrain lineup.

The bottom line: If you want a heavy-duty truck with strong capability, a broad trim range, and a market that has become more buyer-friendly, the 2020 is the sensible pick. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop selectively and target lower-priced listings, but the 2020 already offers a good balance of value and capability.
