Used 2020 Ford Explorer for Sale nearLondon, ON

How much does the 2020 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 16.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 389 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Ford Explorer earns a 4.72/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, impressive power, stylish design, and advanced safety features. The roomy cabin and modern technology also come up often, and many owners describe it as a fun-to-drive SUV that fits family needs well.

The trade-offs are clear, though: the interior materials feel cheap, and the price can feel high for what you get. The overview also points to a vehicle that is roomy and practical, but not especially strong on value.

With 36.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.72/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with praise for its long-term appeal, strong performance, and trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers. The expert drive notes also support that impression by describing the chassis and powertrains as well sorted and confidence-inspiring in daily use.

The cost-effectiveness notes add that Ford’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher running costs and expensive trim levels can make the Explorer less forgiving if you want low-cost ownership.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Explorer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin design is stylish and the SUV is spacious, but the interior materials are a weak point, especially when you compare it with pricier trims and similarly priced rivals. Base versions also miss some of the more upscale presentation that helps the Explorer feel special.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.3-litre turbo four-cylinder is the volume engine, while the available 3.0-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 brings much stronger performance. AWD is standard on all trims in Canada, and the V6 adds serious pace, but fuel use rises noticeably.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot 360 comes standard with forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, auto high beams, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with steering assist, reverse braking, and a passenger front knee airbag. The suite is broad, but reverse braking can be overly sensitive.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, factory navigation, keyless entry, remote start, 3-zone climate control, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Ford’s keypad entry system. Higher trims can add a 10-inch vertical touchscreen and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.3-litre turbo four-cylinder is rated at 11.6 L/100 km city, 8.7 L/100 km highway, and 10.3 L/100 km combined. The V6 is rated at 13.3/9.8/11.8 L/100 km.

Which 2020 Ford Explorer trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Explorer is offered in 4 trim levels: XLT, Limited, ST, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• XLT: This is the entry point and the best place to start if you want the Explorer’s core strengths without paying for the pricier performance and luxury upgrades. It gives you the standard AWD setup, the standard tech, and the broad utility that defines the model.
• Limited: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale feel and are interested in the stronger available powertrain without jumping all the way to the performance-focused models. It suits you if you want a more premium daily driver.
• ST: This is the enthusiast choice, with the most aggressive tuning, the strongest performance focus, and the most dramatic road presence. It is the right pick if you care most about speed, sharper responses, and the sportiest version of the Explorer.
• Platinum: This is the luxury-leaning choice, pairing the stronger available engine with a more premium equipment set. It makes the most sense if you want the Explorer’s performance and comfort at the top of the range.

Ford Co-Pilot 360 is standard, and the safety content also notes adaptive cruise control with steering assist and reverse braking as part of the package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Explorer?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly when you find a strong one.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 389 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.18% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,738 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $26,758 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,924 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the current average, you are starting from a lower price base than last year’s shoppers did.

For a future seller, that means resale value will depend heavily on condition, trim, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold attention better than stripped or heavily used ones, especially because the Explorer still has broad appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Explorer safe?

The 2020 Explorer earns a five-star safety rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot 360 comes standard with forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, auto high beams, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with steering assist, reverse braking, and a passenger front knee airbag. That is a strong standard safety package for a used SUV.

One caveat is that reverse braking can activate falsely, which may be annoying in tight parking situations.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 brings an all-new chassis, more technology, and hybrid and high-performance powertrains, which makes it a more modern and broader-appeal Explorer than the previous year.

The bottom line: If you want the newer chassis, stronger tech, and a wider spread of powertrains, the 2020 is the better target. If you are mainly shopping on price, a nearby older year may be easier on your budget, but the 2020 gives you the more modern package and is worth prioritising when you find a well-priced example.
