Is the 2020 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 4.77/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, luxurious interior, and advanced technology, while also highlighting its comfort and spaciousness. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a premium SUV that balances everyday usability with performance and a polished cabin. With 35.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with owners repeatedly calling out its build quality and overall refinement. At the same time, the tech complexity and high maintenance costs suggest you should expect ownership to be more demanding than a mainstream SUV. For used buyers, the long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about keeping maintenance and repair costs under control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW X5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you focus on well-priced examples.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 163 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.19% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $39,908 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $40,005 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,043 CAD.

That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year's average. Strong condition, lower mileage, and a clean service history should matter even more if you want to protect resale value later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $35,812 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $40,005 CAD average.
• It introduced the redesigned X5 with more room and updated tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $44,548 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $40,005 CAD average.
• It adds a plug-in hybrid option and more everyday utility.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, owner satisfaction, and current market softness, the 2020 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want the newer feature set and can spend more, the 2021 is worth a look.
