How much does the 2020 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 8.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 144 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.1/5 model with an 8.2/10 expert rating, which points to a well-rounded premium sedan that leans hard into driving enjoyment. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its beautiful design, strong performance, and comfortable interior, and the M340 variant gets especially strong feedback for power and driving dynamics. The 2020 BMW 3 Series is also described as fun to drive, comfortable, and powered by a strong engine, which fits its role as a sedan that can handle both spirited driving and daily use.

The trade-offs are familiar: the design may be polarising, and value for money is a weak point. That matters because this model is aimed at buyers who care more about refinement and driving enjoyment than bargain pricing.

With 27.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is some room to shop selectively if you want the right example.

Is the 2020 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that many owners find dependable and enjoyable over time, with praise centred on its performance, comfort, and overall driving experience. The M340 variant in particular is described as a standout for power and driving dynamics, which reinforces the sense that this is a car people can count on for an engaging ownership experience.

BMW also includes free scheduled maintenance and warranty for the first four years or 80,000 km of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership friction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright satisfaction and more about paying premium-car costs for a model that already has a reputation for being expensive to buy and own.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 3 Series?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 330i starts at a high price and includes BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system in Canada, but it does not include extra-cost metallic paint. The M340i is the more desirable performance-focused choice, and it is described as worth the added cost if you can afford it.
• Powertrain: The M340i uses a 3.0-litre turbo inline six-cylinder engine with 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, paired with BMW’s rear-biased xDrive AWD drivetrain, a rear M Sport differential, and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: To get BMW’s latest advanced driver assistance systems, you need the Advanced Driver Assistance package. The suite includes safety features that were accurate when used, but the lane-keeping assist can feel abrupt, and the package is optional rather than standard.
• Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive system includes a touchscreen display, natural voice recognition, gesture control, and the familiar centre-console knob and buttons. The touchscreen is the easiest to use, while gesture control is optional.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-consumption figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2020 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2020 BMW 3 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 330i, M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 3 Series experience with xDrive all-wheel drive in Canada. It suits you if you want the badge, the premium feel, and the everyday polish without stretching to the performance model.
• M340i: This is the trim to buy if you want the most compelling version of the car. It adds the strongest performance character, and the source material says it is worth the extra money if you can afford it. It is the best-value choice for enthusiasts who want the full 3 Series experience.

The Advanced Driver Assistance package is optional, so check whether a used example has it if you want the extra safety tech.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW 3 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 144 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.03% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,105 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $33,762 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,709 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations if they plan to move the car quickly. A premium sedan with a strong reputation can still hold interest, but the current trend shows that values have eased rather than strengthened.

For you as a seller, that means condition, equipment, and trim choice matter more than ever. Well-kept examples with desirable specification should be easier to position than plain or heavily used ones.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2020 BMW 3 Series earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS when equipped with the adaptive full LED headlights.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW’s Advanced Driver Assistance package is the key safety-tech option here, and it brings the brand’s latest advanced driver assistance systems. The available features were accurate in use, though the lane-keeping assist can feel abrupt, and the package is not standard.

The main caveat is that some of the most useful driver-assistance equipment requires that optional package, so you should verify whether a used example has it before you buy.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 27.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for the arrival of the M340i, which gives the lineup a clear performance-focused identity while keeping the everyday polish expected of a premium sedan.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of performance, comfort, and premium feel, the 2020 is the right year to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2020’s softened pricing and strong enthusiast appeal make it the better pick for shoppers who want the most compelling version of this generation.
