How much does the 2020 BMW 3 Series cost?

Is the 2020 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Generally — the 2020 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.1/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its performance, comfortable interior, and beautiful design, with the M340 variant drawing especially strong feedback for power and driving dynamics. The overview also points to a sedan that is fun to drive, comfortable, and broadly appealing if you want a luxury car that still feels engaging. On the other hand, the design can be polarising, and value for money is a recurring concern.

With a moderate market verdict and 26.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively rather than rush.

Is the 2020 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that many owners have found dependable and enjoyable over time, with especially positive comments around the M340 variant’s driving experience. The expert notes also reinforce that this is a car built to deliver a strong, confidence-inspiring drive, with the kind of engineering that should feel reassuring in daily use. BMW also includes free scheduled maintenance and warranty for the first four years or 80,000 km of ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that condition, maintenance history, and option content matter a lot, especially given the model’s premium-car complexity and cost structure.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 3 Series?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 330i includes BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system in Canada, but it does not include extra-cost metallic paint, while the M340i adds a much more performance-focused setup and is the trim that the expert test drive singled out as especially impressive.
• Powertrain: The M340i uses a 3.0-litre turbo inline six-cylinder engine with 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, paired with BMW’s rear-biased xDrive AWD drivetrain and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: To get BMW’s latest advanced driver assistance systems, you need the Advanced Driver Assistance package. The safety features worked accurately in testing, but smoothness was sometimes hard to come by, and the lane-keeping assist can feel abrupt.
• Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive system includes a touchscreen display, natural voice recognition, gesture control, and the familiar centre-console knob and buttons. The touchscreen is especially easy to use, and the voice system responds well to natural commands.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-consumption figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2020 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2020 BMW 3 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 330i and M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the more accessible choice, and it still gives you BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system in Canada. If you want the 3 Series experience without stretching to the top performance model, this is the trim that makes the most sense.
• M340i: This is the standout trim and the one the expert singled out as especially impressive. It adds the strongest performance character in the lineup, and it is the best-value choice if you care most about driving enjoyment.

The Advanced Driver Assistance package is optional, so make sure you check whether a used example has it if those features matter to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW 3 Series?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 130 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.87% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,104 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $33,604 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,700 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays where it is. The year-round range suggests there is still meaningful spread between the lowest and highest asking prices, so condition, mileage, and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to resell. A well-kept example with desirable equipment should still attract attention, especially if it presents as a strong, premium sport sedan.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 BMW 3 Series safe?

The BMW 3 Series earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS when equipped with the adaptive full LED headlights.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW’s Advanced Driver Assistance package adds the brand’s latest driver-assistance systems, and the safety features were described as accurate during use. Standard equipment can vary by example, so you should confirm whether a used car has the package if you want the full suite. The lane-keeping assist is noted as rather abrupt, which is a caveat worth keeping in mind if you prefer a gentler intervention style.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its especially impressive M340i guise and its strong blend of performance, comfort, and premium-sedan polish.

The bottom line: If you want a used 3 Series that feels especially polished and engaging, the 2020 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, the softer market and decent deal share make it worth shopping carefully for a well-equipped example rather than paying top dollar.
