Why it stands out
The 2019 Volvo XC90 stands out as a luxury midsize SUV that blends Scandinavian design, family practicality, and a strong safety reputation. It offers three rows of seating, a spacious and comfortable cabin, and an elegant interior layout that helps it feel more upscale than many rivals. Buyers looking for a refined family vehicle will also appreciate that it is positioned as a stylish, safety-focused alternative in the segment.
For 2019, the XC90’s appeal is strengthened by its modern technology and broad equipment list. The cabin centres on a vertical touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, and the SUV includes advanced safety technology such as City Safety, Pilot Assist for semi-autonomous driving, and a 360-degree camera system. It also comes with standard all-wheel drive in Canada, while the available powertrains range from a 250-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder to a 316-horsepower twincharged version, plus a plug-in hybrid that delivers up to 400 horsepower and impressive fuel economy.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The base models are underpowered, and buyers should be aware of the potential for high maintenance costs associated with European luxury used cars. Even so, the 2019 Volvo XC90 remains appealing because it combines comfort, safety, and practicality in a package that feels distinctive and thoughtfully executed.

Although we purchased the car with nearly 70k miles on it, it was in like new condition. Our whole family is in love with all of the thoughtful, convenient, and innovative features this vehicle has to offer. From the all-wheel drive and full panoramic moon roof with screen to the two-tone leather seating, lumbar support, the projected speed on the windshield, automatic headlights with local posted speed limits, and automatic windshield wipers. With the extended warranty we purchased with the vehicle, we hope to be enjoying it for many years to come.

What is the 2019 Volvo XC90's resale value?
The current average of $26,402 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,697 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the XC90 more attractive to you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should be more conservative than they were a year ago. Even so, a well-kept example can still hold appeal because shoppers continue to value its comfort, safety, and premium cabin.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 39.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 19.25% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2019 XC90 is a strong choice if you want a luxury three-row SUV with a premium cabin, family-friendly practicality, and solid owner approval. If your priority is getting the best value, this year’s softer pricing makes it especially worth a look. If you are more price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years to see whether a similar XC90 can be found at an even lower entry price.
