CarGurus Analysis: 2019 GMC Terrain
Summary
With 73 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,002 CAD, 30.1% of 2019 GMC Terrain listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 GMC Terrain 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 GMC Terrain stands out as a compact SUV that leans more premium than many of its rivals. It shares its basic hardware with the Chevrolet Equinox, but GMC gave the Terrain distinct styling inside and out, along with features such as a push-button gear selector, better sound insulation and a slightly smarter interior. That more upscale approach helps explain why it appeals to buyers who want a small utility vehicle with a more polished feel.
For 2019, the Terrain came standard with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 170 horsepower, while a 252-horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder was optional with most models and standard with the top-shelf Denali trim. A nine-speed automatic was standard with both gasoline engines, and a unique 1.6-litre diesel engine was also offered in 2019. The diesel’s 137 horsepower was modest, but its 240 lb-ft of torque and excellent fuel economy made it the efficiency choice, especially for highway driving.
There are trade-offs, though. The second-generation Terrain’s cargo space behind the rear seat trailed that of its most popular rivals, and the 1.5-litre engine’s highway acceleration is not very good. Even so, the 2019 Terrain remains appealing for shoppers who value a comfortable cabin, strong safety equipment and good value on the used market.

What is the 2019 GMC Terrain's resale value?
The current average of $18,701 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,168 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point if you're planning to keep the vehicle for a while. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should be set with the current softer market in mind rather than last year's higher pricing. Even so, the Terrain's appeal as a premium-leaning compact SUV can help support demand when it's time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2019 Terrain makes the most sense if you want a compact SUV with a more premium feel, strong owner approval, and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If you're especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2019 is the better fit when you value the Terrain's upscale character and want to shop from a reasonably active used market.
