How much does the 2019 BMW X5 cost?

Prices have softened 13.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 164 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.56/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 7.83/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its sleek design, advanced technology, and luxury features, along with the strong performance and comfort it delivers. That lines up well with the X5’s use case as a midsize luxury crossover that blends car-like handling with SUV practicality, plus room and comfort for everyday use. Even so, the market still shows 32.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2019 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centred on its strong performance, comfort, and luxury appeal. The expert evaluation also highlights a smooth, well-sorted powertrain and transmission combination that feels consistent and refined, which supports confidence in how the X5 should hold up over time. BMW also notes that the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that some owners have reported electrical issues, so you’ll want to verify service history and make sure all systems work properly before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 BMW X5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The xDrive40i starts with AWD, adaptive LED headlights and fog lights, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped and power-adjustable steering wheel, faux-leather upholstery, a power liftgate, ambient lighting, and a digital gauge cluster with a 12.3-inch secondary touchscreen. Heated front seats are optional, so check whether the example you’re considering has them.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder in the xDrive40i or a 4.4-litre V8 in the xDrive50i. The eight-speed automatic is a highlight, and the inline six is described as smooth, responsive, and efficient for the class.
• Safety package: BMW’s available driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. These features are available rather than standard on the base version, so confirm the equipment list carefully.
• Infotainment: The X5 uses an updated iDrive system with a 12.3-inch secondary touchscreen. Wireless charging, enhanced USB and Bluetooth connectivity, a rear-view camera with 3D view, gesture control, and Parking Assistant Plus are available, but the tech is described as less intuitive than some rivals.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive40i is rated at 11.7 L/100 km in city driving, 9.1 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.5 L/100 km combined.

Which 2019 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2019 BMW X5 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive50i.

Here’s the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core X5 experience. You get the smooth turbocharged inline six, strong standard equipment, and the same upscale cabin and driving character that define the model. It’s the trim that makes the most sense for most used buyers.
• xDrive50i: Choose this if you want the V8 and are willing to pay more for extra straight-line performance. It’s the more powerful option, but the added cost makes it a better fit for shoppers who specifically want the stronger engine rather than the best overall value.

The safety package is impressive, but many of its features are optional on the base trim, so check each vehicle’s equipment list before you commit.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 BMW X5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 164 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.36% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,733 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $35,733 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,244 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the current average or below, you’re starting from a more favourable entry point than a buyer would have had a year ago. Strong demand for well-equipped luxury SUVs should still support interest, especially for examples with desirable equipment and clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 BMW X5 safe?

The 2019 BMW X5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover tests, and five-star ratings in side crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW’s available safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Those features are available rather than standard on the base version, so you should confirm exactly what’s fitted on any used example you’re considering.

One caveat is that the semi-autonomous driving features are described as disappointing in real-world use, so you should not assume the driver-assistance tech will be a standout strength.

Should I buy a 2019 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the first year of the redesigned fourth-generation X5, with a larger cabin, updated styling, and a more modern iDrive setup.

The bottom line: If you want the newest shape, the strongest mix of performance and comfort, and a used price that has already softened, the 2019 X5 is the right place to start. If you’re mainly chasing the lowest purchase price, a nearby older year may be worth a look, but you’ll give up some of the redesign’s improvements.
