CarGurus Analysis: 2019 BMW X3
Summary
With 36 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,985 CAD, 19.4% of 2019 BMW X3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 BMW X3 4.78 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 BMW X3 stands out as a compact luxury SUV that keeps BMW’s sporty character front and centre. It belongs to the third generation, which launched for the 2018 model year, and that generation was praised for blending modern technology with engaging driving dynamics. For buyers, that means the X3 offers the premium feel and driving engagement BMW is known for, while still serving as a practical family SUV with a high seating position and easy access.
What makes this model year especially appealing is the balance of performance, comfort, and equipment. The third-generation X3 brought LED headlights, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, adaptive suspension, automatic climate control, premium materials, and BMW’s iDrive touchscreen infotainment system. The xDrive30i used a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 248 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission, while more powerful versions were available with stronger straight-six powertrains. The plug-in hybrid xDrive30e arrived in Canada for the 2020 model year, so it does not apply to the 2019 model year.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The X3 is not designed for off-road use, and some owners noted that the ride can feel a bit firm. It also carries the usual premium-car downside of higher maintenance and repair costs, and some rivals offer more rear passenger space. Even so, the 2019 BMW X3 remains distinctive for combining sharp handling, a high-quality interior, and a genuinely upscale driving experience in a practical SUV package.

PROS Powerful engine with a great sounding exhaust. Sporty handling for a small SUV/CUV. Roomy interior - used to be the size of older X5s. M Steering wheel and head-up display are the best in the business. The iDrive and large screen are now touch screen have improved from previous years. Smiles for miles! CONS Sporty handling comes with harsher ride than you might prefer but not bad. As with any over engineered Euro car possible finicky faults/repairs (based on my experience with a 2015 335i). OEM tires does not last long, expensive replacement especially with 20 21 wheel options. Options can add add up to cost quick. Hard to learn all the options and combinations. I wish the seats (Vernasca leather option) were a tad plusher. The Harman Kardon upgrade should be standard.

Is the 2019 BMW X3 a good car?
Yes — the 4.78/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, comfortable ride, and high-quality interior, while also highlighting the advanced features that make it feel well equipped. That lines up well with the X3’s role as a compact luxury SUV that blends everyday usefulness with a sporty driving character. Is the 2019 BMW X3 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centred on its comfortable ride and overall quality. At the same time, used buyers should pay attention to the known trouble spots mentioned in the model overview, especially electronics, oil leaks, and cooling system issues. For long-term ownership, that means a careful pre-purchase inspection matters because premium repair costs can add up if those issues are present.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 BMW X3?

- Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 181 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.51% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,847 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 BMW X3's resale value?
The current average of $23,039 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,334 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it can also mean future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 BMW X3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.51% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2019 is a strong choice if you want the X3’s sporty feel, upscale cabin, and well-rounded feature set at a softer price than it carried a year ago. If you’re price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a similar example offers a better deal, but the 2019 remains the better pick when you want a balance of value, owner satisfaction, and premium driving character.
